Stonehenge to Glastonbury

Hi All!

First time poster and festival attendee so excitment levels are high 🙂

We plan to arrive 2 families in 2 seperate motorhomes on the 20th afternoonish after visting Stonehenge in that same morning.

2 questions if I may:

  1. Is that a practical thing to do?
  2. Any recommendations for camping sites to spend the night of the 19th in? Close to Stonehenge.

Thanks!

It is the Solstice on the 20th I believe... If you dont have tickets you may be unlucky..

I have driven past (A303) many a time and always say "we should visit one day"... and always just have a photo taken of the driver with the stones in the background...

Are you attending the Stonehenge Solstice Festival which runs from 18th-21st, or just wanting to be at the stones for sunrise on morning of 21st?

Your 'ticket' comment confuses me as we were there last year and there is no ticket requirement for visiting for sunrise.

I'm travelling with the OP. We intend to do some sightseeing on the 20th, see the stones and head for Glastonbury Festival. I had no idea about the Stonehenge Solstice Festival, how is it gonna affect us?

Ah yes....having re-read the original post I get it now that you intend to visit the stones on morning of Tues 20th, and then head to Glastonbury later in the day rather than stay for sunrise on Weds 21st at 0449. If you did want to consider it though all the details are below but basically they close to normal visitors at 1300 on the 20th...then open the carparking at 1900 for visitors who wish to attend sunset at 2128 and through to 0800  Weds morning.  Last year we arrived at 2330 and grabbed a couple of hours sleep in the car before walking to the stones for sunrise. The Solstice event is all free of charge and very well organised with security, food and coffee stands in the parking fields and up near the stones themselves. If you wanted to consider it I can vouch for it being a very memorable experience, although it would obvs mean you wouldn't get to Glastonbury until later Weds morning.

Re the Stonehenge Solstice Festival this is a separate event held about 3 miles West of the stones near the village of Berwick St James, and runs from 18th - 21st June.  If you are arriving at the stones on Tuesday 20th then you shouldn't be impacted by it in any great way eg arriving/departing traffic.

Hope this helps....and happy to help if you have any further questions.
