they were great at brixton academy in 2017 - i did also enjoy them on the other stage in 2014 but brixton was the better gig

just looked up a review from brixton show https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/reviews/blondie-brixton-academy-deborah-harry-debbie-chris-stein-london-pollinator-a8062821.html

looking forward to seeing them on the pyramid this year!

I can't work out whether i didn't enjoy that gig in 2014 because of the band, or because it was insanely busy and I was at the back of the Other field, with a massive hangover and terrible sound

For us that people jam was the worst one we’ve been in at Glastonbury. Didn’t hit any of the tricky ones last year, or any in between. That Blondie one is the one we all use as a comparison.

Urgh, Foo Fighters would be a real let down, when two of the biggest British bands of the 90s are about near the time. It's sad that their bassist died but they've been at every festival pretty much over a decade. Unless you've gone out of your way to miss them you've probably seen them.

Unsure why this got two down votes. Just don't like the foo fighters, is that a crime now on this website?

It’s still mad that Blondie are playing a prominent Sunday slot on the Pyramid in 2023 with no new record and no new material in the past six years

Sunday has heavy been booked based on a lack of options, that much is clear. If it wasn't for seeing Elton's guests I'd probably pack up after Blondie and make my exit. Although that said, I think I will see Becky Hill finish and then pack up as I'll have finished working well before then and be ready to go because my car will be very closer to the entrance where I am.

It’s a bit of a sh*t booking, there’s no other way of looking at it. Like, I’m sure they’ll pull a decent crowd and that crowd will be belting out every word, but the band has really done nothing to deserve such a generous bump up except… just continuing to exist. Like maybe they’ve had some kind of minor rise in popularity over the past few years? I’m not sure, but I don’t think anybody expected them to be playing third down, and that we were all very much expecting pre-legend at best.

They add a bit of variety to the bill and I suspect that they will get a lot of people going again on the Sunday. Sometimes it’s just about entertaining the crowd…

I will say, in my opinion, that if Pulp were booked it would have made much more sense to at least knock everyone down one slot and put Pulp into the sub slot. I know that means Blondie would have been the Legend but at least there is status to that. They are being given 1hr 15 the same as the Legend too.

I think Blondie will be one of though that will not do a set to completely filler their time. I'll be surprised if she does much over an hour which works out great for me.

I don't think its any different to bands like Madness or Chic still getting decent slots despite not being toppermost of the poppermost.

What is indisputable is that the Pyramid starts an hour later now and has 7 acts rather than 8, so real estate is now more precious than it used to be.

Noone ever loves 100% of everything that's on El Pointo.

But I did used to enjoy kicking off the festival on a Friday morning. Hacienda Classical took the stage at 10.45am. This year the starting whistle is at noon.

Ben

I keep missing them at festivals, really need to try and catch them this year!

Blondie deffo entering the 'bands to see before they die' territory.

Yeah I think that’s probably about it - one last hurrah at Glastonbury before they pack it in and/or die so might as well give them a prominent slot and make the most of it.

I don't find Blondie in that slot any stranger than Robert Plant or Elbow tbh from last year. They've got some singalong tunes and they're still a kind of heritage band. They'll be popular enough for the Pyramid for that time on.

Agreed.

Standard Pyramid booking tbh.

Could very easily be. To my mind they seem like part of quite a balanced menu for the Sunday. Nothing odd about it at all!

That was a fun start to the festival! Did you see a mashed Hooky mooching around prior to coming on?

Obviously not because many other people have expressed the same view in this very thread.

Your downvotes might have something to do with the fact it was the Foo Fighters drummer who died, not the bassist.
