Secret Sets 2023

I can't think of any which are plausible/ possible/ make sense.

I mean, Blur? It would shift the remaining Wembley tickets and drum up excitement for the new album. I haven't seen whether they have any clashes. Surely would be too big + risk crushes but killers did it.

Biffy clyro, Simon is on site with his new project. Doesn't seem that likely though.

Could obviously be bollocks but there have been rumblings of Foos having hotels booked nearby, and Dave does like doing this kind of thing so who knows…

Florence has shows around Glastonbury with the weekend free.

The 1975 have the whole weekend free with surrounding EU dates

Don’t expect it to be all three of those as that’d be three pretty huge secret sets, but first three that came to mind.

Couple of my friends asked about Blur at the weekend, it does seem somewhat possible. Only other name I've seen is The 1975, which also feels plausible. Those spots do imply that it's going to be someone of some decent standing

I'd expect smaller acts personally. Can't see Headliner size acts going on Woodsies/park stages given the issues raised last year. I'd guess at acts like Two Door Cinema/Bombay Bicycle Club etc.

I think there’ll still be at least one headliner/sub sized act - TDCC and BBC wouldn’t look out of place in those Woodsies slots if they were announced so really no point them being TBA’s imo. All three TBA’s are on at prime festival time with big acts going against them so no real trouble in them getting too mental, and even if they do, they’re easily closed off like they have been in previous years.

I’d be surprised if it was anyone huge after the crowd issues last year. If word got out it was Blur/The 1975 it would be nuts. Plus they tried to close fields last time and people just pushed past the Marshalls or climbed over stalls to get in. A repeat of those scenes and will be terrible for the festival’s reputation and licence review.

The timings of the slots are interesting..

Friday 7.30pm Woodsies TBA: doesn't really make much sense for a big surprise guest? The hour gap between Pulp and Fred Again... already clash central for most of us, why stick another big band in there?

Sat 7.45pm TBA Park: direct clash with Lizzo, who they bumped upto the top line (would they want to take away a lot of her crowd?)

Even smaller acts will have the same sort of agreements that lead to "The Churnups" if they have other festival spots with restrictions.

James with their Orchestra thing are festival exclusive for Latitude and with the Melvin connection that's a possibility for the Park spot.

Pretty sure that was with stuff like Sugababes rather than any of the TBAs, who I didn’t hear any trouble about. You might be right that those I’ve listed are a bit too big, but I can’t see them scaling them right back to mediocre Other Stage indie fodder that would barely get people excited, because what would even be the point?

Theyve stuck them against big slots exactly for that reason - to stop the crowds being too massive as people will be preoccupied with Pulp/Fred Again/Lizzo/Capaldi etc.

Even to put a secret set on top of another secret set!? (pulp!)
