Didn't know that FKA Twigs, JaiPaul and Clipse are giving their only EU/UK concerts for Primavera. Apparently it's confirmed by one of the bookers. Makes it a bit more special tbh plus the Vampire Weekend also being festival exclusive. Does that mean that they are out of Porto?

I think those 4 are ruled out of the Porto lineup

Why dangerous?

As I said "biggest name on the lineup". Gabi said today that it's the biggest name they have and compared to other years where you a lot of big names, this year it's mostly her. She is known for cancelling or showing up late. Hope she doesn't do it here, because I (personally) know a lot of people that will try to see her and buy the ticket.

Is it exclusive for festivals or also for solo shows? Because in the case of Vampire Weekend it´s only European festivals, so I don't see any problem of them touring arenas in Europe if there's new material.

VW is festival only but for FKA twigs, Clipse and Jai Paul it's their "only EU+UK show in 2024".

If she cancels, they will use the money to get another big name unless it's last minute. And probably offer a refund to day ticketholders. It would be no big deal in the light of all of that, especially with 150+ other acts on.

I mean if Madrid happened after one canceled day, Barcelona is not gonna "die" if she cancels but I think in a year with so few big names, booking someone like Lana is risky. Specially because she cancels at the last minute. Hopefully she doesn't because I want to see her.

More chance Lana turns up late than outright cancellation imo. She hasn't cancelled any gigs recently, last I see is 2020? But might have missed something.

She did cancel her tour, showed up late many times, some time ago before 2020 she did cancel a festival, don't remember the name. Well and all the Glasto sh*t that happened, she almost cancelled for not being the biggest name on the lineup. In a way it's funny

One tour and one festival cancellation in 18 years would make her a pretty reliable performer if that's all there is.

Lizzo being in the line above here was actually a joke though.

Based on their performances, I don't think so

In terms of how good it was or how many people it drew? Cause the latter is whats supposed to define poster slots.

Otherwise it would be super hard to place the Strokes, they could be first or last name on a poster depending on how Julian feels that day

Yeah, is there any actual evidence she is a particularly bad gig canceller?

I see that she does short tours and maybe she's often late on stage but can't see that she has a reputation for being flakey about actually turning up.

Yeah this was my point. I don't think she'll cancel but expect her to be on stage 30 minutes late. It's a risk I'm not willing to take anyway, will see something else.

The very mundane explanation is that the person they 'screwed over' was not in fact LDR but Yusuf / Cat Stevens.

Recently they put the Sunday afternoon headliner on the top row but his name takes up so much space, it didn't fit and they needed to keep a big font for the top line.

So they moved Lizzo into that space. Also worked being current, popular and not a white man (like all the other headliners).

If Lizzo had a long name liked Lizzo del Schmizzo and Lana del Rey a short name, say, just known as Lana, then LDR would I'm sure have featured on the top line instead.

To design a poster you have to be practical choices.

Instead LDR threw a childish strop.

Yeah I can totally see that and I know that glasto is different to most fests.

But: it is not just a matter of personal entitlement where an artist is placed on a poster. It is quite relevant because a position at a big fest will be used as measurement for positions/fees by other promoters. I have actually seen bands cancelling gigs altogether, because they were promised to be in the headline, but then were pushed down because the fest scored some other band last minute (I think this even happened publicly once with Architects at Jera on Air).

I might be late to the party for asking this a whole day after... but do we know why the Ciutat program wasn't announced?

I think thats just way harder to plan in detail and the finetuning probably just wasn't ready. It involves external players after all, not just the PS crew and the artists booked.

btw every year they get too much backlash for these line ups that, subsequently, in hindsight, reveal themselves to be even too stacked. People were very annoyed last year for a line up with depeche mode, Kendrick Lamar, and all the followings IN SMALL FONT IN THE POSTER

Alex g, amenra, Boris, built to spill, emeralds, hud mo, pinkpantheress, comet is coming, alvvays Julia holter, swans, the Delgados l, unwound, Yves tumor, death grips, gilla band, John cale, jpegmafia, kelela, Laurie Anderson, nia archives, overmono

And I think I saw more negative comments last year than ever. People just do not get that these small font names are usually worth a festival alone.  So maybe if they booked LDR, vampire weekend and sza instead of let’s say, tool, we just deserve it?

After going through the lineup there's 25 acts I want to see across 3 days.

As I dig further I'll discover more stuff I like that I hadn't heard of - happens every year. So despite the initial "whelmed" feeling as someone put it - there's plenty there for me on reflection and I'm guessing they'll add a few good mid to small names.
