Slight twist on the usual wicket v cockmill.

aiming for cockmill but have read that it’s usually full by Wednesday Lunch time, which worries me in itself will we be able to move! 😬

anyway if cockmill is ful, can anyone recommend somewhere close that would be suitable (ish) for kids. Looking at the map I was thinking possibly the top of big ground?

first year going with kids going to miss the safe haven of by beloved hitchin hill

Big Ground, as with all the other areas around the Pyramid, is just as popular and busy as Cockmill. If you can't get there at a reason time (in by lunchtime Wednesday at the very latest) I'd aim for Wicket, parking accordingly. The worst thing to do is park east, find no camping space and then have to trudge across to the west side of the site.

Morning,

thanks for the reply, to be honest planning on being in the queue early doors so do hope to get in and head to cockmill, having not camped on this side before I didn’t realise big ground was also a quick filler!

don’t suppose you have any experience of  joining the queue with kids, I was thinking to get it and queue early hours and then for my wife and daughter to come to me, worried this might be frowned upon though!

People do join the queue and have group members join them later but it depends where they are in the queue. If your in the zig-zags or a barriered section then it simply may not be possible due to the volume of people.

A few years ago when my son was a toddler I waited on the grass while my then husband joined the queue and just followed him slowly, taking lots of breaks. It was a massive pain in the arse for him but nice for me and my son. No one seemed to mind.

we camped in Cockmills a couple of times and it wasn’t a restful Spot. At the time we wanted to be near the Kidz field and all the other parts of the festival on that side but the last few times I have chosen Wicket which has lots of benefits including the fact that the long walk to get places can be varied so that the adults get to walk past stages and see/hear some music and also the kids are not close enough to the Kidz field to continually ask to go there. Win win if you ask me.

  • Thanks 1
