Hey hey

Thinking of travelling to open'er for the first time this year. I've being lurking in the forum and would love if someone can help me with a few questions I had:

1) If I'm thinking about not camping, is sleeping in Gdynia my only option? I read that there are shuttles all night to the train station there but the places in Gdynia are a bit pricey. Is sleeping in Kosakowo or Rewa also works? How easy would it be to come back after the last shows? Are there buses/taxis?

2) When do you think we'll get more announcements of acts?

3) I've seen there were VIP passes to get closer into the main stage. Haven't seen any mention of it on the site so I guess it's gone?

Thanks for anyone who will help 🙏

1. It would be more convenient to look for accommodation in Sopot or Gdańsk, if options in Gdynia are too limited. The festival shuttle bus takes you to Gdynia Main Station, from where you can take a train to Sopot or Gdansk. The train is called SKM and runs quite often (I think they add more trains at night during the festival). When looking for the accommodation in Gdanks or Sopot, try to get something near one of the SKM stations (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_SKM_stops). Kosakowo and Rewa are on the opposite side of the coast and while there are some city buses running from/to festival, they are very limited, especially at night.

2. Hard to say, maybe still this month, but they usually close their line-up as late as in June and since there are only around 12 international acts still to be announced, they can wait with the next drop till April.

3. I'm pretty sure VIP passes dont give you the opportunity to get closer to the Main Stage (at least they didn't in the past). Can't see them on their website either so maybe you're right that they are sold out.

There are usually around 40-45 international acts each year (+ Beat Stage), last year it was 41 acts. They've already announced 29 acts for this year.

Looking at the glastonbury announcement, what do you think are the chances of Disclosure, Bloc Party or Janelle Monáe being added to the lineup?

I'd say pretty high for Disclosure and Janelle Monae, they both have available dates during our week (Janelle is only playing Werchter on Saturday). I think Block Party are in UK during Open'er, aren't they?

You're right about Bloc Party, I didn't catch that. Have you heard any rumors about which international acts will be added?

The only rumours so far were about Nicki Minaj and Future. Nicki was announced by another Alter Art festival (Orange Warsaw), but Future is still possible.

Opener still has less than half of a lineup revealed, last year's last announcement was 2 weeks before the festival. If they want to sell me a ticket, they need to hurry up 🙂

But as I understand, very late announcements are they tradition, feels like they have a problem with bookings every year, and filling gaps at the last moment.

Yes, that's pretty standard for them. However, I don't remember a year with so many gaps on Main Stage this close to the festival, incl. missing headliner on Saturday. Next week, we have public holidays in Poland (Wednesday and Friday), so I guess the earliest we will get the announcement is May 7th.

Ok, I had too much free time during the weekend (catching a cold in May is a wonderful idea, really), so I've summed up the announcements so far and the gaps are as follows, I think:

Wednesday: the main stage is full, pink tent: one name left, possibly international, because of 3 Polish artists already announced for that day, blue tent: one name left, possibly Polish, cause all others are international.

Thursday: two names left for the main stage, international, I guess. I dunno how popular the Polish guy is, but I don't think he'll play at midnight. Pink tent: one artist TBA left, probably Polish. Two names left for the blue tent, hard to tell if local or international.

Friday: both main and pink tent full. Only one artist TBA for the blue tent. As it is a replacement for Yaeji, I think it might be a Polish one.

Saturday: things begin to feel weird here. Three free slots at the main stage, including the headliner (cause they didn't call Skrillex even a co-head, am I right?). The pink tent is full. Four names for the blue tent.

So... What's left TBA for Wednesday and Friday might be done in June when they release the timetable. But I thought the gaps for Thursday and Saturday could be done in a single announcement, and now I kind of doubt it.

Obviously, they have to say who plays the DJ stage too. It's actually kinda great at Open'er with the lights setup and so on, but I assume it's not that important overall.

I know, I know, TL;DR 😄

Good job! But I think we should get one international name for the pink tent (it's called Tent Stage) and 1-2 int. names for blue tent on Thursday (Alter Stage). Also the Polish guy will probably play at 6pm on Thursday.

As for Friday, I think Yaeji will be replaced by international name.

Saturday is missing 2 international names for Main Stage (Skrillex is not a co-headliner) and 2-3 names for Alter Stage.

Hopefully some new names tomorrow or Tuesday 🙂

So maybe it is Future after all?

very possible, but on the other hand, these rumours about him came up like in January or February, so it's strange they wait so long with announcing him. I think we can be certain of one thing: their plan A (and maybe even B) failed...

Well, assuming he was never plan A or plan B...

What about Massive Attack? They're playing in northern France on Sunday, I think they're free on Saturday. Dunno if it suits their eco-touring and they would be certainly a small headliner for a festival of this size, but Open'er seems to like them and they do have enough strong names in the line-up already.

They didn't headline (or even co-headline) in 2018, so I bet they wont this year either, having in mind that the festival has become more youth-oriented since then.

But who knows... the available options are very limited. There were also some rumours about Drake summer tour in Europe, but it was back in December and no updates since then.
