IMO, there’s obviously more to it than ‘Neil decided to be against the thing that was obviously in play for weeks if not months earlier’. He’s being disingenuous at best.    Just a theory but maybe he took exception to the notion that he might step aside if a headliner they’d prefer to play would agree. I mean, it’s a reach but so are his comments about why “he” decided not to play. 

I like Charli but she is not the biggest artist in the world. Not even close.

Glastonbury would have to work hard to find someone who’ll get a smaller crowd than Young would have done. I say that as someone who was really hoping he’d do it. If he’s an acceptable headliner in terms of crowd size then so are e.g. Pulp
