Your loss!

If you're actually interested, start with Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere, then you can go from there. On the Beach is the best IMO.

Cheers pal. Parents were never really in to him and I don't remember watching him on TV in 2009.

Sounds like he is playing but personally I just cannot see it being Pyramid Headliner. Just not the big status act that he may once have been now.
WH perhaps.

I mean, I'd love it to be true, but I certainly don't think he'll be headlining the Pyramid, as you say.

It would be a monumental get for WH!

True - but I was replying to a post on here.

As to whether it's true more generally that noone under 40 will have heard of Neil Young I dunno.  He doesn't have the karaoke tunes that Macca and Elton do, but he's still very much a bill topping act.

Not sure i agree when it comes to Glastonbury. Does he have the metrics or following to be a headliner particularly if you put him up against someone like Charli XCX on the Other?

That plus the fact that he famously smashed it last time and a good number of folk who were elsewhere that night have spent 15 years kicking themselves about it

I don't really think that's a factor tbh. The amount of people attending both 2009 and 2025 will be low and then from that point the amount that missed out on NY that wanted to see him who are going in 2025 will be miniscule

Yes.  Similar situation to Kendrick vs the Pet Shop Boys.  Chazza will fill the Other field, Neiler will draw a mid-sized crowd on the Pyramid. No drama in either direction.

I think people are very much underestimating Neil Young, either that or I'm completely missing the mark.

He's been my favourite artist for about ten years and I'm currently 31, plenty of my friends love him too from the ages of about 25 to 35 whilst not being able to name a song by Olivia Rodrigo or a Charlie XCX whilst obviously knowing who they are. I'll caveat this by saying this may be coming from a place of bias but I really didn't think we were that much of an outlier, I have a eclectic taste in music - I'm not one of those that won't listen to anything made after the 70s!

With regards to age or ability to put on a show, have you bother to watch any of his performances from the last couple of years? There's no where near the drop off in most artists his age and I'd argue he's held up at least as well as a McCartney and definitely better than Elton.

One of the best songwriters of all time and one of the best guitarists of all time over both the electric and acoustic and would be classed as such by his peers and we are talking about metrics? Maybe he won't get the young crowd but the last time I checked the crowd wasn't known for being young at Glasto, one of the older average ages I would guess?!

I recall years ago when Brian Ferry headlined WH and the word was that Michael wanted them playing ands headlining so WH it was even though it might not have been a fit people were used to.

Perhaps this will be the same - we will find out by the end of May.

I feel we are all in our own musical bubbles. I am the exact opposite of you. I couldn't name a single NY song, but I have been a loyal follower of Charli for over 10 years. In my mind, I can imagine Charli doing better on the pyramid than NY, but that is because I am in a bubble where all my friends are die-hard Charli fans.

That was Bryan Ferry, not Roxy Music.

Plus he had the art school / avant-rock lens which made him that bit more suitable.

I know Charli and Neil music wise.

I like some of both but am not  a huge fan of either but as far as headliners go it those were my choice I would go for Chari as being up and dancing at that time is a good thing rather than listening to great music but without that grab.

Charli would have a bigger crowd probablty where ever and when ever she plays.

Corrected the artist, thanks................... but the discussion on here was very much that he was not a WH act.

Not as much of an outlier as NY.  Music still largely groove-based and influential on things like New Romantic in a similar manner to Bowie.  Miles away from the likes of Harvest and Tonight's The Night.

Musicians go in and out of vogue all the time, nothing to do with quality or anything, they have peaks and troughs of popularity, 15 years ago, Nile Rogers couldn't get arrested, saw him 3rd down in Canterbury supporting the Charlatans and someone else. These days, he's riding high again. Get the feeling NY is going through a bit of a decline in his popularity - if you like, his share price is currently low. No doubt it will rise again.
