I was 2nd row for Springsteen so it was still a great experience for me but acknowledge the disappointing show. He played a Joe Strummer song at the start which seemed a mistake (a relatively obscure number too). I didn’t move from the pyramid stage that year and regret nothing: CSN Spinal Tap just reformed Specials Fear era Lilly Allen Madness Tom Jones Quo Cave NERD Rolf (we didn’t know) Prime era Dizzee Kasabian before they fell off a cliff. Superb!
NorthernSoul52
Spinal Tap! Had completely forgot about them.

If it’s an issue of recency bias there’s a wider argument to be had on statute of limitations on judgements of character. By all means replace them though! NorthernSoul52
Concur here. He's said plenty, though the whole postmodern schtick obviously means their interpretation is frequently up for grabs. (Again, not a defence, but an observation.) Let's also not sugarcoat that the festival has booked plenty of artists before with off-stage troubles too. Again, not a defence, but an observation. If there is a contract at this point for them - I'm not sure, but if anyone could say whether there has been further movement on the sources who laid out this information originally - then it could be revoked if he is found to be in breach of it, of course. FKA SOSOTWS
Can't we get Stevie Wonder - Neil Young - Olivia Rodrigo as our top 3 now?

TheSheriff
Well Neil Young was my Number 1 Spotify wrapped artist so a Shakey headline set is exactly what I’m hoping for 😂
Monty Pythagoras
Prepared to get shot for this but is there a chance that Neil Young does the Other Stage against someone like Charli XCX?
NorthernSoul52
Not in this world, I'd say. Price probably the stumbling block as much as prestige.
incident
One thing that slightly bothers me about the Neil Young rumours, and did even moreso when he was initially mentioned for the Legends Slot is how controlling and restrictive he can be when it comes to allowing his stuff to be broadcast / streamed The story last time was that he eventually only allowed something like 3 songs, and that was only a last minute decision - in the lead up to the festival, the BBC were unsure how much if any they were going to be allowed to show and so had contingency plans in place. These days, exactly how much the BBC and GFL can use, and for how long (short version: loads) is written into the standard Artist Terms and so either he'd have to allow a *lot* more coverage than he did last time, or he'd have to negotiate an exception. I assume an exception is possible, especially if the festival really want an act and are prepared to make extra concessions to get them, but I think there's certain "prestige" slots where they'd probably want to avoid doing so - with headliners (and the legend slot) definitely being ones they'd want shown. Can't help but wonder whether some kind of "special guest" type affair without that expectation / requirement would be possible.
CaledonianGonzo
If the worst came ro the worst they could just broadcast Chazza.

Almost definitely an exception could be negotiated, plus isn’t Shaky one of Michael’s favourite artists? I don’t think many will want to stand in the way of Michael getting a bucket list moment and demand televised slot or he can’t be booked, they can even broadcast Charli if she is indeed the counter programming. CaledonianGonzo
There have been other artists that didn't have the whole headline set shown - most notably Bowie and the Stones.
