I don’t really like the 1975 - I’ve tried a few times and revisited them recently after this forum seems certain they’ll be there.

Still a 2/10 band for me however good they supposedly are live, I won’t be there.

I don’t disrespect them or their fans because as with all music - people will love them and that’s good for them.

I won’t be watching them and the great thing is - I dislike them so much that it makes my decision to be elsewhere so easy

Same here. Can’t for the life of me work out why they are considered headline material, in my humble opinion they’re bang average at best, but I’m a lot older than your average attendee these days I guess. Don’t think it’s an age thing though, they’re just very poor. Constant cliche, well worth repeating though, there’ll be plenty else on elsewhere.

Yet by all metrics, they are a worthy headliner.  5 UK number one studio albums ticks the box for a start.

I'm afraid this is just down to personal taste.

Similar band that seemingly loads like by sales and gig attendance and yet nearly everyone you speak to thinks they are pure unadulterated shite?

scratching my head, nearest I’ve got is Blossoms.

was going to say Radiohead but I will not have those legends compared to the f**king 1975

Not a fan of the vast majority of The 1975's music, but what I seen of them at TRNSMT last year was terrific. Would have stayed for the whole thing if I wasn't a bit iffy about getting home.

I watched about 20 minutes and they were decent, much better live than on record. They had a big crowd too. Still won’t be watching them at Glastonbury as I wasn’t inclined to ever listen to them again but they’ll be a solid headliner

And many older attendees (well, me at least) would not call Charli XCX, Bicep, Fred Again or Chappell Roan exciting.

But I'm surek some will.

Chappell is starting to win me over...

Blasphemy against who?  Both acts are fronted by wrong 'uns, but at least The 1975 aren't likely to play anything as honking as Flashbulb Eyes when they headline.

I like The 1975 but they got songs that are equally cringe as some of Arcade Fire's work.

Also, Win Butler is an abusive character whereas Healy is just a moron. Hell, Glasto had Axl Rose headline who's had credible sex crimes and domestic violence allegations.

Agreed ... but that wont bother me when I am in the pit and loving it

I'll meet you again for a great time watching flash bang brass. Hopefully next time we don't break the stand 😂

This is the case for all 3 rumoured headliners imo (1975, Rodrigo, Young). They are all big enough to headline but I have 0 desire to see any of them and will be elsewhere for all 3.

That's not to say any of them are bad bookings, all 3 will probably get big crowds (depending on who they're up against, of course) but it's looking like a disappointment for me.

I think the band you are looking for is Simply Red.

On a note there, I have very little love for Simply Red and cannot see the comparisons. But most of my musical elders who do not care for The 1975's music tend to tell me that they are basically the Gen Z answer to Mick Hucknall.

The 1975 would smash it out of the park, they are well worthy of a headline spot! An incredible live band with banger after banger.  Exactly what a festival headliner is all about.

Music is subjective, we can’t all like the same thing, but to suggest their music is unadulterated shite is laughable really.
A colleague I work with can’t stand them, which is his prerogative, but he’s admitted he’s never listened to them, apart from Chocolate back when it came out, & said they are just a UK Maroon 5, which made me spit my tea out.   The ironic thing is, their music would be right up his street if he actually gave them a proper listen.
I showed him Part of the band, & he loves that song.

Seems The 1975 are the new Coldplay, it’s cool to hate them.

Digressing slightly, I’m going Download for the first time next year, & absolutely cannot wait, most looking forward to Sleep Token who are absolutely fantastic! Saw them last week in Leeds, didn’t disappoint.  But my god over on the download Facebook groups is worse than here!  Why does music bring out the worst in folk?  Proper snobbish behaviour.  If you don’t like a band/artist, nobody’s forcing you to listen.

It's a discussion forum.  You can expect to see opinions you disagree with.

I think what is being said is that disagreement is fine - it is how that disagreement is written, and on many forums/sites including on here, sometimes that disagreement is dismissive and rude rather than any attempt to discuss.

I will say in fairness with Download though if you don't like the main headliner it does restrict your options as they play unnaposed except for maybe the Dogtooth stage. It's not like you can grab an alternative decent level headliner on tbe second stage. Glastonbury has much more opposite The 1975.

I've got no issue with inventive or heated language.  Adds a bit of colour and it's not like Matt Healey's on here getting upset that people are calling him a c**t.
