2025 Headliners

While I am in no way a devoted fan, personally I'd be very happy to see The 1975 headline -- never seen them live, enjoy a good number of their tracks and IMHO they're sure to put on a good show.

Equally, I was as far away from Pyramid on Saturday this year as I could possibly be as I am one of those Coldplay-unenjoyers -- I've just never got the appeal. Was quite happy for them to be headlining (again!) though, because I know that a lot of people do enjoy their music and from what I heard, a lot of fun was had. But there are so many other options at Glastonbury it really doesn't bother me who is headlining where and when -- personally I took the Coldplay slot as an opportunity to do something totally different on Saturday night and went to Arcadia to see Barry Can't Swim do a DJ set and had a bloody great time!

Anyway, I reckon The 1975 would be a great booking, would be perfect headline material and attract a very decent crowd.

I've got no issue with inventive or heated language.  Adds a bit of colour and it's not like Matt Healey's on here getting upset that people are calling him a c**t.

I am not referring to how people describe the artist, I am referring to how people talk to those that like an act, like the 1975 on social media and forums............... I think they are awful but I will never ram that opinion down the throat of a person who likes them. Tis their choice and some people are very abrupt and rude about what others like.

It comes across as tone policing.  If folk are out of line the mods can and do step in, but otherwise you're asking people to adopt a style or subscribe to a mode of etiquette that suits you but that may not appeal to them.

But anyway, as I said, you'll read stuff on here that you disagree with and that probably also applies to this post.

Love The 1975 more than every other band in existence bar two. Can’t wait to watch their headline set from my living room. Five #1 albums, sold out arena tours galore, headlined R&L and TRNSMT multiple times. No denying they’re a headline sized band. Bangers for days, too. What a band.

Most people won’t even be aware of any of Matty Healy’s controversies. The vast majority of people don’t consume and analyse the world of music in the same way people on a music forum do. They’ll pull a good crowd.

Yeah think people are massively overestimating the effect Matty’s antics will have on people going to see them and underestimating the crowd they’ll pull. They’re a massive band who consistently over perform people in here’s expectations, and they’ll be very popular on the night. Not for me, but it’ll by no means be a small crowd and they’ll undoubtedly knock it out of the park, especially as you know this will be a huge deal for them.

I think the size of The 1975's crowd will depend on who's playing elsewhere at same time. If it's Charli xcx, Nick Cave, Pulp or prodigy etc then will likely be a lot smaller than if it's Loyle Carner.

Ugh and yikes, please do not manifest any of those clashes. :-D

Of course it’s all personal

opinion and if people are into that manufactured rock/pop sounds then that’s all down to individual taste.

From me personally they are absolute dogger and made even worse by a privileged front man that is trying to be some edgey rocker and they just come across as pure parody. Didn’t he once smoke a cig under a table at an awards night and carried on like he was prime ozzy Osborne. Blokes a top class prat.

The fact they’re being talked about as a headline act says more about the current state of “guitar music” then anything else.

facts are if you had to list the best British bands of all Time they’d struggle to get into the top 50. If you listed all their best songs/biggest hits they wouldn’t make an impact on a “best of charts” For the last 10/15 years

I mean, Love It If We Made It was Pitchfork's Song of the Year in 2018 and A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships won the BRIT for Best Album, but as you say, it is personal opinion. One man's cheddar is another man's cyanide.

I mean, that’s hardly sending shockwaves through the music industry is it?

The age old adage - the farms bloody massive.

I don’t like The 1975, would rather a different headliner, but at the same time they’re big enough to headline and undoubtably will get an audience.

Just gives me a chance away from the Pyramid, the rest of the moaning brigade don’t have to watch him either.

Would Kasabian? Would Florence and the Machine? (If we are counting them as a band?) Would Mumford and Sons?

It's all relative, and it all means bugger all in the original point. Everybody has different tastes, and that's completely fine.

But while I'm all for fruity language as expression and exclamation, let's not let debate turn into an extended slag-off that necessarily pisses on other people's enjoyment of certain acts. (Something we are all, or have been, guilty of at one point or another.)
