Despite it being an unintended clash the IDLES Fontaines Clash probably saved the festival from mega overcrowding for either act, if IDLES were not on the Park would have been to packed
Don't know why they didn't just hold on booking them for the park this year. I don't think it was a bad move at all, it was a fantastic set - but it just feels a bit short sighted from the festival. FDC have been on a steady rise it's not been an overnight explosion that couldn't be foreseen that they might be able to sub next year? It's baseless speculation but I do wonder if this is a result of them struggling to find alternatives.
We'll have to see properly when other European festivals around the time announce their line ups for the what ifs - maybe there wasn't anyone available size wise, but I honestly doubt it.
I think Kelly still sees them as bill-toppers or subs, save for stuff like Radio 2.
If he doesn't, then I still think they command a fee that, for whatever reason, Glastonbury have not seen fit to stump up.
Fallow year has f**ked things up a bit to be fair.
Thougj recurring friendly type acts continuing to show up whilst more glamorous bookings don't happen doesn't exactly dampen down the rumours that a lot of the big touring acts are now out of the festival's budget.
