Experimentation for one album is fine, but a permenant switch from their roots is not. E.g. Sleeps Society was okay, Self Hell was awful. FTTWTE was okay, the one after was not.

I think it’s about keeping up momentum. Like Sleeps Society had some bangers on it and got them a bit bigger/on to a new crowd but then Self Hell was just forgettable. It’s kinda about doing it well and you will succeed but if not you’ll fall on your arse.

What it boils down to, for me, is that, outside of Bring Me The Horizon, pretty much all of the bands in this field just aren’t that creative or really don’t have a true understanding of how to incorporate poppier/electronic elements into their music. Oli Sykes and especially (especially) Jordan Fish do.

Yeah they are a million times better in the dark, and the setlist was also weak by their standards, but the performance still had far more to it than Architects

To put it out there, I'm not metal/heavier orientated bands started out in the thought of wanting to or needing to I corporate poppier elements in there music. Machine Head, Megadeath, Slayer, LOG, Architects or Bullet wouldn't suddenly decide let's go pop. 

It's just like taking poppier acts and them deciding I'm going to try and go heavy rock and metal with it. I mean why would they. I think Tom Greenan or Anne Marie or Bloc Party for example are about to do a metal number or Basement Jaxx with their return, Underworld, Jamie XX, Peggie Gou, LCD are.

That's what I mean, Pendulum at Download wasn't anything great but Architects was just that flat that the cheeky girls coming on stage for 10 minutes would have produced more memorable moments.

Two of my mates saw them at Graspop and Download, both are big architects fans…both said they flopped it big time. 
 

A massive shame. Totally on the cusp and just couldn’t quite get there. 

Didn't one of their members also got into some hot water on twitter over sharing/liking political tweets and the band never addressed it / swept it under the carpet.

I’ve had Seeing Red and Curse on repeat for a couple of weeks now but I like the current Architects sound, FTTWTE was the album that got me into them. Saw them supporting Biffy in Leeds and thought it was decent enough but I can definitely see them stagnating. I’d imagine the tour will be Victoria Warehouse, Ally Pally size venues, coming down like Shikari did.

I think all three of Architects, While She Sleeps and Bury Tomorrow have already hit their peak and there’s only one way to go from there. 

Architects will never play anything bigger than Wembley again and will stay at Ally Pally level. 

 

Sleeps will never do Ally Pally again or anything bigger and will stay around Brixton size. 
 

Bury Tomorrow will never reach Brixton. 
 


They’ve all been lapped ten times over by Sleep Token and I think Malevolence will surpass them, or at least equal them and do Wembley before long.

As said above, LF//LT, AOGHAU and Holy Hell is peak Architects. I really digged FTTWTE when it came out and revisited it a loads at the time but I think it was a Covid thing for me. TCSOABS is mostly forgettable for me besides the singles.

 

I really like the 3 new singles so far, but I still think it’s kind of generic. Nowhere near as emotive lyrically or sonically as LF//LT to Holy Hell (I guess for reasons obvious).

 

One final point… Architects really need to shorten their album name. Feels like talking in Enigma.

That’s the problem with the new singles. It just sounds so generic (as does the whole last album). They’ve lost anything that made them stand out, imo.

Meshuggah won’t be on the Avalanche. I don’t think Lorna Shore will either but I guess they have a lot of crossover with the metalcore crowd who are usually quite well represented on that stage.

I love some generic metalcore don’t get me wrong, but when the new album comes out I can’t see it as becoming my go to Architects album (which is definitely Holy Hell). I usually need something pretty special to become a go to album. I could be completely wrong though; we've only heard 3 singles so far, so there could be a few nice surprises in the album. On the whole though it’s nice they have reverted back to a more classic metalcore sound. I think Whiplash combines what they’re good at in heavy verses and catchy choruses.
