Foos and Blink are Multi generational as with Muse I find there fans are 35-60 target only for the majority. Not saying they aren't massive but just not relevant to a R/L crowd no more. The festival has moved on.

So I'm under 35 and have been to see them a lot, and at their show last year in Milton Keynes I saw a lot of people under my age.

The bigger question tbf is what are their actual plans next year. Matt Bellamy's guitar tech did a podcast a few weeks ago and said that that Muse are prioritising writing and recording next year. In saying that, Muse's last Reading and Leeds slot in 2017 came while they were also recording what became Simulation Theory, given they were in and out of the studio for about a year around gigs for it.

Personally, I think they could still do a job as R&L headliner but I think somebody else will do it.

I don't think they are touring. If what I've heard is true Download approached them to replace a headliner that dropped out and they thought about it, but passed it up. Don't think they will be active.

Interesting I didn't know that this was a report.

Either means they're an exclusive elsewhere or, as is more likely, they're just gonna prioritise the process of making a new album.

So either way it's not a win as Muse are a soppy headliner for Download anyway. Soppy headliner in general now, another band without a decent record in years.

I mean, I recall them being well received at Download in 2015 and some of the stuff on their last record was just flat-out metal, which was the best sounding live stuff of that LP when I saw it. And given we just had QOTSA and Fall Out Boy as headliners, and Biffy Clyro have now done it twice, I don't think they're that out there a pick.

Saying that, Muse weren't really that high in the chat on the Download thread this time and as suggested, it could be they're prioritising recording over live shows next year. I thought they had Green Day and the new-look Linkin Park as their big budget duo, although there seems to be some doubt over the second of those.

Muse aren't a metal band. They are so much different to Fall Out Boy and QOTSA. We can't really mention Biffy Cyro, worst Download headliners with the large crowd walkouts at Download.

Muse haven't had an album do anything major credit wise in 10 years and it's been 15 years since their last half decent record.

Are Fall Out Boy metal now? No disrespect to them - I saw them open for Green Day on the Hella Mega shows only really knowing 1/2 songs and was very impressed, but I thought they were more in that pop-punk/vaguely "emo" world.

I also wasn't aware Biffy Clyro were seen by some as being a bit of a dud as Download 2022's closing night headliner, although this vid from their 2017 set doesn't seem that strong a crowd either. Although a lot of those who did bother to turn up for '22 on the festival Reddit and these forums still thought it was a good show. All down to taste innit.

In any case, the Download thread seems to reckon Sleep Token, Green Day and Korn as the headliners. GD has been rumoured for ages so not a surprise. So that'd settle that argument for 2025 at least.

No FOB wouldn't have been my choice either, they made pop albums for the last years but had recently returned more to the rockier songs they made.

Download had its lowest capped capacity for a while that I can remember, it was also the result of asking 21 bands so what is he doing wrong that all the others say no.

Also yes, Biffy at Download both times is the the worst showings for me in my several times seeing them. The crowd in 17 was quite thin and booking to close in 22 was madness!, like did you not learn. People were leaving in their thousands after Korn who I also didn't think gathered the biggest crowd that year complaining. The only reason it wasn't as bad in 17 was because there was still another day to go.

And yes the 2025 headliners bar one isn't for me so that's 2025 out.

Do feel for Biffy. Should have had a better crowd than they did on both accounts. Top live act.

They're in a bit of a strange place imo. I saw them at Birmingham NEC Arena two years ago and the standing room was rammed but the seats were a bit sparser. No moreso than when I'd seen them in the same room in 2013, mind.

I will say tbf that angles help. There was one angle that made their 2022 crowd still look pretty chunky and then another which made it look like SZA at Glastonbury.

Aye, angles do help. Believe their Leeds Arena '22 date was a sell-out, partially because they were smart enough to skip Manchester. Sometimes, it all comes down to the routing.

They announce they're going to tour an anniversary run celebrating Puzzle in a few years, think they'll get a few arenas there. Look at Keane vaulting back into arenas. Sometimes, the moment comes back to you.

I'm aware in a few weeks that Biffy are doing 3 nights apiece at SBE in London and Barrowlands in Glasgow where each will have one of the first 3 albums played in full.

I'm not sure Puzzle has the crossover to do a full nostalgic arena tour to the same extent as Only Revolutions, which is probably the album with their biggest hits.

It's weird. The biggest hits are from Only Revolutions, but there's more depth to Puzzle

It'll be one or the other - or possibly both, in a Saviours-style approach.

You could honestly give me those two albums and I wouldn't care about anything else. I would pay decent money to like £65/70 as well to see both those albums in full. Yes there are good songs on other albums but nothing matches those two.

Shame there's not a date for these early albums up in the middle of the country.

Maybe it's just the nature of Biffy Clyro now being a bit more of a cult band. Similar to how Depeche Mode seemed at one point to just do London shows only for the UK, maybe with Birmingham & Manchester if they were really pushing the boat out.

To early for it? F**k it. Let's do it anyway.

The Festival Main Stage

Dua Lipa - Olivia Rodrigo - Foo Fighters

The BBC Main Stage

Lewis Capaldi - Queens of the Stone Age - AJ Tracy

Is my opening post well off?

Dual HLd Glasto last year, to do RL this year then? 2 females headlining is great optics in 2025. Swap AJT for Central Cee, and maybe Hozier for QOTSA.

When are we expecting an announcement?

I want a solid collection of acts announced so I can convince my wife to go with me, if it isn't at least 6 headliners that she knows, and 2 or 3 3rd/4ths like Charli XCX types, she will say no.

Come on FR. Appeal to the 30 year old women!

I think Dua's stadium tour will rule her out. Even if she has an August gap, can't imagine she's doing both. I know sometimes acts would do a big solo show in London then something like Glastonbury or Reading in the same summer, but I don't think that's the case anymore.

Reading kinda feels like it's now harder to predict tbh. If Foo Fighters have decided to can their 2025 touring plans when they previously seemed like they were nailed on, then that's a curveball and might well lead to them seeing if they need to procure a replacement.

Screw it, let's just throw all the money at Billy Joel for the banter but have him exclusively joined by a parade of Gen-Z guest stars that increasingly confound and irritate him.

"Now, to help me out on The Longest Time, please welcome... Jesus F---ing Christ, CENTRAL CEE!"
