Can’t see TOP doing arenas in May and then coming back to Europe in August. Can see Kasabian, Eminem and Charli XCX doing it. Could still see Foos tbh. Would they book SZA after the Glasto stuff?

They did exactly that in 2019. They're only one day off their Glasgow show of that year.

They still appeal to a Reading-level demographic? I know we had this argument about Muse a few pages back and The Strokes' success was even longer ago than theirs.

Although tbf it something to note that when I first went to Reading for a day trip in 2011 that Strokes/Pulp co-headline and Muse were two of the headliners.

Absolutely, but also pretty much in jest. The chance of them ever rocking up in its current guise is about as large as me playing a set full of banjo covers on the Chevron Stage.

Maybe if we somehow fell through an Interstellar-esque wormhole to wind up back in 2000 when Stereophonics with Tom Jones was heralded as an iconic moment.

I don’t even know if they’d still appeal. Has their era of indie come round again yet? Along with The Libs and The White Stripes. Or are we still a few years away from that era being popular again?

Well, Franz Ferdinand's 20th album is 20 this year and is one of the biggest albums from the 2000's indie rock scene, but they're still yet to sell out 2 nights at Shepherd's Bush Empire. So, maybe give it a few more years.

It's on the cusp.

Thinking about it, I did see a gig announced while I was on holiday of Kaiser Chiefs with Razorlight, The Cribs, The Coral and We Are Scientists taking place in Leeds in May.

That feels like a list for an NME Award in 2005/06 thrown into a blender alright.

Yeah, straight on the patch. We haven't seen prices on it yet though.

Just want The Strokes tbh.

Big name indie: Arctic Monkeys, Sam Fender, Liam Gallagher, The Strokes

Pop girl: Halsey, Eilish, Lana, Charli xcx

Legacy rock band: RATM, The Killers, Blink, Linkin Park

MSW indie/rock act: BMTH, Foals, Gerry Cinnamon, Kasabian

Radio 1 on-rotate acts: Dave/MTS, Capaldi/Imagine Dragons, Fred Again/Catfish, Chase and status/Central Cee

Not to put headliners in boxes but I think something like this could work?

The Strokes/Kasabian

Linkin Park/Charli xcx

Chase and Status/Central Cee

Chase and Status/Central Cee feels weak, and frankly, don't think The Strokes are a draw anymore on that level, though rarity factor does play into that.

Their big songs are still popular (as with White Stripes and Libs) but just not enough to justify headlining at R&L now.

Theres no way Strokes are doing main headline slot now to be honest. If they couldn't do it in 2011 then there's no way they can now.

They would be a great pick as a second headliner - given how long since they last played, they are the right size for it and the fact i like them. They are not very keen on being billed second though it seems.

Are they actually touring also? The New Abnormal released ages ago now, they have toured for a few summers and the voidz are being announced on posters if i recall

Yeah The Strokes won't be booked for it but they taking nothing lower than solo. They are a bit like The Cure in that they'll play various different capacity options as long as they are paid.

Not sure i'd compare them

Cure are well up for smaller gigs, weird venues etc. Also play non festival shows regular - strokes hardly ever do (roundhouse in 2020 the only remotely recent one here)

Strokes visit the UK for a festival headline slot payday (or two) every few years while they aren't scrapping with eachother.

Your right on the first bit though - no way are they main headliner now.
