2025 R&L Festival

Panic!'s stock was close to an all-time high when they split - more likely plateauing than peaking, but still felt like they had commercial clout.

But yes, this will be a brief one-and-done, I reckon. Expect BU to tour again with them more earnestly when his kid is a bit older - he basically indicated they were stopping because he wanted to be a stay-at-home dad, didn't he?

Given all we seem to have gleaned, it'll be a shock if she's not a headliner.

It tickles me, in a way - and this is not an attempt to genre-gatekeep or shame generationally - that we are starting to move towards headliners who won't have a Scooby-Doo why Reading and Leeds is enshrined in festival culture and history.

I don’t think a lot of international acts do. It’s just another festival to them during a long summer of festivals. Especially pop and hip hop headliners where R&L hasn’t historically been a part of the culture.

It’s a cliche that the British headliners go “R&L was the first festival I came to and I spent the entire weekend shitfaced in my tent” etc etc but it’s true. It means something to them.

Barely any British headliners hit the same heights overseas whereas if a US act is headlining here they’re headlining everywhere.

Chappell Roan has teased a new album. With that extra material, I could see her being one of the big headliners.

Another 3 or so singles to add to her repertoire of 3 or 4 other UK singles?

We aren't going from one year having Lana Del Rey as second down and then saying Chappel Roan is the big headliner.

We did the same with Yungblud. Got pranked that he was headliner, he released The Funeral and we all spiralled into convincing each other he 100% will be the big headliner, and that he was the new The Cure, and the biggest thing to happen to Punk since the 80s.

She is big, but she does not have widespread mainstream family friendly appeal to be headlining the bill for one of the largest festivals in the UK.

She's far bigger in the US, and just 3 weeks ago she was 4th down at All Things Go in NY. Hozier > Renee Rapp > Conan Gray > Chappel Roan

Since when was family friendly a requisite to headline Reading festival?

It’s all about ticket sales. She’s headlining elsewhere in Europe, people are confident she’s going to shift them.

Theres certainly going to be plenty more demand for her than Paramore or Chase and Status

There’s more chance of Chappell Roan headlining all 3 nights than Oasis playing

Family friendly is just a saying referencing mass appeal. All the headliners appear to the fans of all genres. Whilst the outliers will go to listen to some drill headliner in 1Xtra etc. BMTH only got on stage once they got their music on R1, Arctic Monkeys, Stormzy, Kendrick, 1975, Blink, Lana, Fred... all of them are acts that appeal to the fans of opposing genres. Rap fans can appreciate AM, while rock fans acknowledge Stormzy and Kendrick etc.

Paramore / C&S have been around much longer, and they're nowhere near headlining either (Paramore "co'd" in the day of American soft-rock which was a glorified sub).

They have already confirmed no festival appearances.

I didn't know that, okay..

Point still stands, Chappell Roan is about the same size as 21 savage both worldwide and in this country. She will be a special guest, or a sub.

This never happened.

Chappell Roan is bigger right now than Yungblud will ever be - Primavera have taken the punt, no reason why R&L wouldn't i reckon

(do believe she is second headliner at the moment, but she is clearly bigger than Yungblud!!)

If anyone has mass appeal it’s Chappell Roan.

As popular with 7 year old girls as 40 something men

Wouldn’t surprise me. I could see Charli getting main headliner just as much as I could see her being one of the smaller ones.

It was just to be honest the selection I thought.

Bring Me The Horizon x Chase & Status

Central Cee x Chappell Roan

Foo Fighters x Hozier

Just a guess. Could see Cench and C&S swapping.

But I forgot we heard that BMTH were headlining R&L now. I have edited mine but don't see how they do that without Hozier dropping. Bearing in mind C&S could be the one not playing. It might be Hozier and not C&S.

They likely will but I wouldn't be surprised if it's at the sake of Foos. BMTH, Foos and any of the others except for Chase and Status would seem a farcry from last year.

It's a far cry from Blink, Fred and Liam
