However regarding Foos, I didn't say they are a dark fruits band, I said they fall into a category, along with dark fruits bands, as someone that will placate the dark fruits crowd (indie fans). Almost everyone I know that is an indie fan also likes the Foos.

Hmmm - I wouldn't say they're dark fruits in the same way others are, but I can see how somebody that likes that kind of music would be amiable to Foos as a bill-topper and that they do have a few songs in that territory. Guess it's a grey area.

Or it's me poking my nose into something I know f**k all about. One or the other.

No, not at all. Too refined.

There is a blackcurrant and blackberry Rekorderlig, which I suspect is the closest given the ingredients on S:DF are concentrates of these two fruit juices.

But yes I can imagine it's not a dead ringer.

I prefer strawberry, pineapple or cherry ones anyway.

Bin off the dark fruits, bring me some high quality TETLEY'S BEST BITTER and we'll whip this bill into shape.

Can we get a petition going for the bar to serve some kind of bitter? Preferably John Smith’s but I’ll take anything 😂

Peak dark fruits was about 2015-2018 when the likes of Courteeners, Catfish, Stone Roses, LG, Kasabian, Gerry Cinnamon were all active at the same time. It was a glorious time.

Tbf 2018 festival season was awesome full stop. There were some amazing acts on tour that year. I went to Mad Cool (if just a day pass) and Lolla Paris and think I could've gone further.

Although I will also note Lolla Paris had Catfish followed by Noel Gallagher. I missed the former and found the latter to be quite dull. Certainly made to look more dull than it was given the Nekfeu v Killers battle of the bands drama that followed.

I’ve just had to search her on Spotify because I’ve never heard of her and I’ve listened to two of her songs and turns out I’ve heard them loads but thought they were Olivia Rodrigo songs 😂

Please. Just something that isn't larger or cider.

Not only that, Carlsberg and Somersby are up there with the worst lagers and ciders of them all.

This would be an instant weekend ticket for me. It’s about time Idles played R&L again.

2018 was a great year, thought R&L lineup was poor personally though. Courteeners leaked around then, there were some calls for them to headline like that’d ever happen. Seemed to be around then that Y Not, Truck etc really started to booked proper big names.

2018 was guff. Only year I’ve gone for the day and not the weekend since 2011.

I went home on the Sunday when it was torrential rain. The likes of Nerd and Dua Lipa didn’t entice me to stick around. Dua probably would these days mind. The Friday had Sleepy T and Sam Fender early on the pit and FR stages which is funny looking back.

I didn’t really vibe with much on the 2018 lineup at the time. Only really saw a handful of people I was actually bothered about. But man, in hindsight, it’s a great lineup for me and far more on there that I listen to now versus 2018. Hindsight eh 😁

I've never tried Strongbow Dark Fruits. I like Koppaberg and Rekorderlig products so would it be a similar thing to those?

Imagine drinking a glass of ribena squash, but rather than 1:5 ribena to water, it's around 2 part ribena to 1 part water.

I did a calculation last year on lineups from 2003-present, I can't remember what it was based on — I think it was in hindsight who on the lineup has really increased their profile. I was tracking if the changes to the lineups and the way we consume music was having an affect on the lasting power of lineups. Like you look at say 2008 and think holy sh*t that was an amazing lineup, but at the time it was probably meh.

It found that 2018 was the lineup where the most artists had gone on to massively increase their profile from where they had played on the day.

Post Malone, Travis Scott, Dua Lipa, Playboi Carti, Sam Fender, AJ Tracy, Pendulum, PatD, Yungblud, Skepta, Lewis Capaldi, Courteeners, Wolf Alice all of those played undercard and can headline now, some can headline Glastonbury easily.

If you had this in 2025, it would be gone in a second:

MS: Kendrick Lamar // Sam Fender >> Panic at the Disco

Chevron: Lewis Capaldi >> Yungblud

MS: Dua Lipa // Post Malone >> Wolf Alice

Chevron: Courteeners >> Playboi Carti

MS: Kings of Leon // Travis Scott >> AJ Tracy

Chevron: Pendulum >> Skepta

How did 2005 compare in the calculation?

That year had The Killers, QOTSA, Kings of Leon, Razorlight, Biffy, MCR, Kasabian, Arcade Fire and Arctic Monkeys on the undercard who all went on to headline within the next decade.

Also had Elbow, The National and LCD Soundsystem who would be in much more prominent slots now.

This feels like one of those insane EU festivals like Mad Cool where you look at it and think blimey, if only R&L could replicate.
