This would be an instant weekend ticket for me. It’s about time Idles played R&L again.

They've just sent an email saying their only UK shows in 2025 will be a couple of dates in Bristol

...so the wait goes on

IDLES have just announced two huge shows in Bristol as their only UK dates in 2025 so they won’t be playing.

I think it’s absolutely mad how they haven’t been booked for the festival in forever.

I remember stumbling across them in the New Band tent when I was making a day trip to R&L in 2017. That was quite the discovery indeed.

2018 was a great year, thought R&L lineup was poor personally though. Courteeners leaked around then, there were some calls for them to headline like that’d ever happen. Seemed to be around then that Y Not, Truck etc really started to booked proper big names.

The best festivals that year seemed to be in June and July tbf. Something that, by design, R&L isn't. But it is what iti s.

This feels like one of those insane EU festivals like Mad Cool where you look at it and think blimey, if only R&L could replicate.

Think part of the problem is the oversaturation of the UK market given we have a lot more festivals competing for all the names. If R&L had a money is no object budget they could put something truly insane together tbf.

I don't think see why the festival would see Idles as priority for the festival. They aren't really the Reading scene.

Can't believe i missed the dark fruits argument ffs

---

1975 definitely have a considerable amount of crossover but are not quite in the dark fruits category. They definitely get a lot of flack too.

Can’t speak for all dark fruits enthusiasts but Healy won’t be a particularly popular figure to a lot of that crowd. Just ask the Gallaghers 😂

Musical output not so much crossover, but the kids on social media demanding them and Sam Fender every year, 20 years ago would be the ones demanding Oasis and Strokes every year.

They're radio friendly alt-pop.

Agreed. I guess we'll see if there is confirmation he's doing this Romanian festival before R&L and if it does come, I think it raises the odds higher.

Trying to work out which Romanian festival it would be.

None of the 2 I know of I'd think were big enough.

Summerwell had Arctic Monkeys in 22, Florence atM in 23, and Keane last year.

Untold have recently had Chase and Status, Martin Garrix etc...

But either of those there had been no crossover with R&L. It was always Sziget that R&L have the crossover with.

If so, I'd say he's a nailed on big 3 headliner.

Bring me the Horizon >> Chappel Roan

Post Malone >> Charli XCX

Foo Fighters >> Central Cee

And that is very much a R&L looking lineup.

Post Malone rumoured for a festival in Romania in August, can see him back.

BMTH / Chappell Roan

Post Malone / Charli XCX

Foo Fighters / Kasabian

Except for Kasabian for Hozier/Cench you'll he spot on. I'm seeing C&S being left off. I did wonder given their status currently if Creamfields might go for them.

Surely they’ll have an indie headliner after having 3 this year though?

Tbf I forgot that's the same weekend as R&L and is also a big deal.

I did say he also gets a lot of flack - but there's considerable crossover too.

If not 2 i reckon

Its hard to fit them in giving a fair few acts seem to be a lock. BMTH seem to be the one to bin off and replace with an indie headliner based on whats been said
