We've always had 3 headliners, it's just marketed as 6 but Gerry Cinneman and Catfish did not head, they Subbed Blink and LG.

They aren't going to drop 3 or 4 selling points from the poster when the entire generation of kids going have only known 6 'headliners'.

It's not so much a headliner, as having a band logo at the top of the poster to shift a few more tickets.

I've been going for 18 years so I understand that wholeheartedly. With their promotion I meant they were '6 HEADLINERS! 2 STAGES!' Etc. So those that have only being going the past couple of years may find it worse, for those of us that are veterans and see it as it is anyway (as the main headliners last year were of course Blink 182, Liam Gallagher and Fred Again..) then we're used to it.

Nah it’s good man! I’m a bit of a font nerd so enjoyed zooming in on the pixels and running them through a font identifier 🤣 I think the new font on the R&L website is Trade Gothic Next, if anyone so cares…

Was just about to ask this

So assume Hozier and Central Cee (?) are now considered subs, who do we think our third sub is?

They always were considered subs to the majority, I think it's only those 20 year old children that have only ever known the shoddy marketing technique of 6 logo bands that still get drawn in. But they are now the majority sales so it's a Pandoras box they can't wheel back or it looks awful.

A question given the reaction to the top 3 will be nothing but complaints "Chappel hasn't got the standing to HL, Eminem is tired and old and needs to go away, Travis Scott is just a hype man for a dj playing his auto tune tracks who is 5 years past his peak".

When was the last time there was a lineup that was acknowledged as a class lineup - other than last year's 3?

The Chappel Roan complaints got me gave me a throwback to 2009 everyone saying Arctics were to new and had no skin in the game to headline, and then you look back and forget how small they were back then, and immediately see 2009 as a big year.

Yes that’s not my question though.

Can't see him subbing when he's headlined twice.

I think they would approach it as a co-headline set with Eminem or Travis but we all know it is really a sub. Like what happened this year with six "headliners"

Popping up shamelessly to see if there's anything about BMTH - are they no longer in the running to headline 2025?

Find it interesting that their Rock am Ring/Park booking is their only 'european mainland' festival show (if I'm remembering the wording correctly), which always seemed to imply doing something else in the UK.

It's not gonna be headlining the pyramid at glasto, and I don't see them taking a 2nd stage headline there either... Not sure what other UK tests they'd be suited to other than R&L.

EDIT: Just looked at the R&R insta post and it says 'EU exclusive' now, pretty sure when it first got posted it said only mainland exclusive. Either way doesn't look likely they'll be at R&L I guess.

Thanks for the update. Love Bring Me so quite sad about this but we’ll see what they release when we get to it. Hoping we hear something later on either lineup wise or an announcement of the announcement.

Rock am Rings website still says it is mainland exclusive but who knows. Much of the lineup is still a mystery over here.

Kinda makes it fun this year. Think we’ve nailed Travis, 95% with Chappell & Eminem. Everything else… who knows?

hopefully we hear something sooner rather than later.

Dave The 1975 and AM was an excellent trio

Eh? Arctic Monkeys had already headlined Glastonbury and done stadium concerts on the previous tour in 2007. In 2009, where else would they have gone on an R&L bill? And furthermore, were they smaller than Kings of Leon even with KoL being at their biggest thanks to their two biggest hits coming out the year before?

On the day and in hindsight i thought it was ace as did most of the crowd, but RATM was met with absolute apathy about CEX workers, and 1975 was derided as an awful drop from Rage to them, and the crowd was half empty compared to the rest of the days.

In my memory of the last 15 years, the only one that was universally praised was last year.

Don't you remember 2009 festival Andre? It preceeded my first one, and the outrage at that time that Arctics were headlining was crazy when you look back. When they were announced, they only had 5 singles out off 2 albums with only 3 really getting any attention.

No it wasn’t. At all. Just stop with the singles stuff too, man. They had headlined Glastonbury and sold out STADIUMS on their second album. There wasn’t any hoo-ha at all when they were announced to headline. The hoo-ha in 2009 was that they had 3 ‘indie’ headliners and no straight up rock headliner. Let’s not be revising history.

Very different days indeed given we've been talking a lot in this thread about the possibility of there being no rock headliner full stop for 2025.

But yeah - nearly every single they'd released on their first two albums charted in the top 10, the albums were runaway hits, they'd headlined Glastonbury and sold out stadiums. The question is where else on a bill would you have put them other than right at the very top?
