Maybe moving the park stage

Thats an interesting thought.... They could maybe re-orientate it to try get a bigger crowd in.

Probably unlikely though.

The main stage can’t go down the hill anymore as the hedge is in the way. It’s a tapered field and there would be no room for all the backstage guff. If they did move it down the hill it would stick out so much that they’d lose most of ground they’d gain.  For clarity there is only a metal track behind the stage as the guff I mentioned it all positioned to the left side of it.

Did you move on to a different venue, or have you gone to pastures new?

The RH split into 2 new venues

Scissors - Designed by Misty Buckley (The Park Designer)

and
The Wishing Well

I am the technical manager for the WW but i do work for both venues. I might add that the WW got hammered on budget whereas Scissors were "well resourced..."

Alot of the original crew run and work at both venues.

I'm guessing that it wouldn't be prudent for you to tell us why that would be?

You must have job satisfaction to the power of job satisfaction? it certainly beats a whole swathe of jobs that I can think of.

It's a GF venue. All the bar money goes back to the festival. In addition, as it was designed by Misty, it had to look good. Essentially it has become the new backstage venue ot to take famous artists to.

There are only 2 independent bars in the whole of The Park, us and Bimble. All the other bars sales go straight back to GF...

Re: Job Satisfaction - It's a good question. I do love it, my sons (twins 23) and my partner also work there (many of the crew families do). My daughter is under 12 so gets in free so we all have a great time. That said (if you check my other post) we operated as a cooperative this year and as a result we only got paid £15 p.h. each (9 directors so to speak). We paid most of the crew more that we got.

There are people that make alot of money at GF or get paid decent rates, and then there are the rest of us....

Melvyn Benn (CEO Live Nation) was made a director of GF LTD in 2021 (quietly during the pandemic) and as a result each year the festival seems to prioritise profit. I don't actually know who is getting all the money though...

Thank you for taking the time out to provide that answer, which is both informative and more than interesting. There are some big cogs working at Glastonbury, and some smaller cogs. The difference between the two does have a scale, but I suspect the top range of the big cogs would make your eyes water.

Sorry to hear that your cooperative didn't work for you, as you would have hoped - but fair play to you for treating staff well. And think of all the happy times for so many people you enabled in the place.

All the best for next year.

I can't see what the attachment says btw. Not sure if others are in the same boat.
