New material dropping this Thursday…

Yeah the snippets here and there have been brilliant.  I think he's so fresh and in your face good.

Hi Ren gets me right in the chest though, even after 100 listens

Yep, it’s superb. What a generational talent he is .. head and shoulders about the rest. Reincarnated is up there with his best ever songs for me.

Just given it its first spin - another top tier record -  And much like the others its got its very own identity-  Greatest Rapper of all time IMO

I'm liking the new album by Halsey, it's very poppy and has a major pop punk influence which I usually wouldn't like, but I admire how real and honest she is talking about her struggles with mental health and her illness. Also even though it is still within the pop realm I like how she's developed from a purely electropop sound to a more mature one with rockier and singer-songwriter influences. Think she's really come on musically and I like how she's not afraid to show vulnerability.

New Michael Kiwanuka album yesterday. Perhaps as a whole a little less immediate than his others, but still very wonderful. He just makes my ears extraordinarily happy.

Only got to this yesterday… a couple of listens in.

There surely can’t be a more talented U.K. solo act than Kiwanuka..

this album is like sinking into a warm bath after being outdoors on a November day.. just beautiful.

knowing my luck (ticketless) he will headline The Park next summer..

these tunes floating over a warm June evening……

The new Soccer Mommy album is lovely. Bit less expansive and psych than previous albums, more minimal and showcasing her songwriting talents. Music that makes you feel stuff - takes me back to that great run on Woodsies this year of Mannequin Pussy / Soccer Mommy. For people who like emoey music with reflective vibes, reflecting on grief and change.

Been listening to the new Kendrick quite a bit, wouldn't say it's his best but it's still amazing as per everything her puts out. Bit more minimal instrumentally, with a bit of old-school west coast flavour, definitely putting his rapping center-stage on this one. He manages to make a lot more hooks just in his vocals which is great. Reminds me a bit of DAMN which did the same sort of thing. After the Drake beef and success of Not Like Us i'm not surprised he's gone in a poppier direction, though he's definitely kept the rawness and subversiveness he always has. Still the GOAT, just riding high atm.

The Times has done its best album of the year - have pasted below. Have listened to most of these but given me a few new ones to try too.

Not a bad list, and a decent start to the discussion. The Adrianne Lenker album is a fair bit too high in my opinion, mainly because of the disastrously poor opener, probably enough on its own to discount it entirely even if the rest of it is very good. I'd have Michael Kiwanuka and Jordan Rakei in there, maybe Leon Bridges as well depending on my mood. Can't quibble with the No1 though.

Yes love the Fontaines album. Pleased to see English Teacher and Vampire Weekend on there too. Have listened to those loads

The newest Father John Misty album is a bit of a masterpiece, his best since I Love You Honeybear I reckon. Sounds like a great development of the orchestral tinged style he's been doing since his last one in 2022, though with more self awareness and irony in the lyrics like you'd get with the older albums. Both the production and lyrics are definitely a lot more interesting than the last album - full of christian imagery and existentialism as per.

Been listening to this a lot lately. Never listened to him really before, he's a very interesting guy and the psychedelic influence draws me in. Will definitely be there if he plays next year.

Yeah I have a strong feeling he'll play, feels long overdue, last time was 2017

The newest album by Opeth is solid, nice to hear them getting back to their prog metal roots after their foray into a folkier sound. Good to hear some heavier stuff and some of the intense growling vocals. Doesn't feel like they're just going back to an old style though, it feels new and almost a bit jazzier. It's pretty unpredictable and dark and that's what I love about this kind of music. The album's got a cool concept too.

Amyl & the Sniffers new album is an absolute belter. Love the attitude, love the energy. Lyrics are straight to the point, almost stream of consciousness. Amy is totally unapologetic in what she sings about and musically it feels more developed than recent albums. I don't think matches the sheer ferocity of their 2021 release but it's still a great listen. Would be great to see them on the Park next year.

I was introduced to Always The Way by Lonely Tourist on Friday by a friend and have proceeded to lap up their last release from August 2024, Takes A Lot Of Beating -- https://lonelytourist.bandcamp.com/album/takes-a-lot-of-beating -- some really lovely tracks on there, highlights for me: This Place Takes A Lot of Beating, Very Bones, Always The Way, A Nowhere You Know and Duty Of Care

Pleased to see they're booked for Glastonbury Calling -- I dunno if that makes them a shoe-in for the festival proper but that would be lovely please and thank you.
