Yeah, RIP David Lynch. A maverick who made both cool and disturbing films and tv. Also loved Twin Peaks, watched both series multiple times, the film, read the book, still not a clue. The comeback 3rd series bamboozled me even more. All brilliant.

Mulholland Drive is his best film imo.

He used such great music in all his work too!
It only struck me after watching the (v interesting) Marilyn Monroe doc on Netflix how much inspiration he drew from her (a seemingly happy and successful blonde lady being pulled into a nasty world) , especially in Mulholland Drive (but also Twin Peaks and Inland Empire), and sure enough googling it I found he talked about her all the time and was even planning on making a film about her.

Twin Peaks was such a weird cultural touchstone for teenagers in the early nineties - absolutely no idea what half of it was about, but still couldnt stop watching. Been meaning to give it an old bloke rewatch for years, this seems like as good a time as any

You should give it a rewatch. Season 1 is as good as ever and you fall in love with it all over again. Follow with Season 2 then Fire Walk with Me before 2017's The Return.

Season 2 dragged it down hugely, but Season 3 that came out around 2017 was absolutely amazing (IMO) and worth a try for anyone who enjoys film/TV. Felt a bit like a best of David Lynch.

Season 2 definitely had it's moments but it didn't really go the direction that Lynch and Frost wanted. Sadly the studio pushed for an resolution to the mystery. If they hadn't, we may still not know who killed Laura.

The great thing about David Lynch is that 2 people very rarely interpret his work it the same way. That is the beauty of it. Episode 8 of The Return is for me up there as one of the best hours of television ever created and Mulholland Drive is a masterpiece.

Genuinely gutted about this.😢 The last couple of years have been brutal to Twin Peaks.

I rewatched the 1st series for the first time since it came out a couple of years ago. It definitely held up Didn't bother rewatching the 2nd. And I still haven't got round to the 3rd series. Now's as good a time as any I suppose

Regret shaving my beard off now. When I'm on a kitchen shift at work I sort of looked like a bit part David Lynch character. Maybe I'll grow it back as a tribute

Out of respect we should mention the passing of Linda Nolan at 65, of the Nolans (Apparently of pneumonia not her long-running cancer battle). I read the band were huge in Japan! I suspect no one (including me) on here will claim to be a fan!! And if you feel you’ve missed out….

I definitely don't want this to sound like an argument, and you did indeed say 'out of respect', but the nolans have left a bigger mark on British and Irish music than maybe we give them credit for. It sounds as though they (one of the sisters at least) overcame terrible abuse from their father to end up having successful careers in music and television.

For Linda to lose her life at the young age of 65 is a tragic loss.

Rest in peace Linda

I'm not a fan but I do like that song. I guess it reminds me of my youth. It's a song that does get people up dancing.

Certainly. Not many people here haven't heard of the Nolans

One of the first bits of music I listened to. It was in the family record collection on 7". Same goes for Boney M who I have a massive soft spot for despite it being "shite"

When I'm in the mood comes on I cant help but sing along and a vivid memory of our late 70's front room appears. I can see my mum's sherry that has been decanted into jarg crystal thing 🤣 Oh and a black portable TV that would go a bit fuzzy every time a car drove past.

Oh, you've taken me right back there to the 70's. I recall hat we (the family) got our first colour television then. I can still recall being more fascinated with the large corrugated cardboard box that it came in than the first sight of colour telly on our own telly, sort of thing. I do remember everyone fussing about getting the new telly to work and me thinking to myself 'I could get in that box, I could', I could hide in that box, I could etc etc. I wasn't a bit interested in what program was on the telly box. I too can visualise every single bit of that front lounge now. Every single bit of it. Odd really, in that I can barely remember what I did 10 minutes ago.

PS - I like the songs of Boney M that I know of. I have very very fond memories of being on holiday in Ireland and listening for the first time to 'Brown Girl In The Ring'. I can fully recall that moment in time too. Talking of Ireland, I think it was pretty 'out there' of them to come up with 'Belfast'.  🙂

More sad news, RIP John Sykes (ex Tygers of Pan Tang, Thin Lizzy, Whitesnake etc). A very talented guitarist who drifted away from music for most of the last 25 years. Only time I saw him was at Thin Lizzy’s last UK gig with Phil Lynnot at the 1983 Reading Festival

His contribution to the  band was sometimes overlooked as it was seen as David Coverdale band. Sad news.

I saw him with Whitesnake way back when. Loved his guitar playing, despite the obvious hair metal look and histrionics, he had a real blues swagger to his style. Sad news.
