That Haigh/P&O story shows the business-worker tightrope this government are trying to walk...be nice to the sh*tty employers because $$$ investment or side with the employees because that is what a Labour government should do.

Not nice to dump on Haigh, especially as government was also criticising P&O (and she is right)...but ruthless Starmer etc.

RIP Alex Salmond

Good riddance, may the rape-y Russian propagandist who brought hate-filled populism back into British politics rot and suffer.

Best news in UK politics since the death of Thatcher.

also came pretty close to achieving Scottish independence.

Yes, which I believe would've been harmful for a lot of people.

But frankly, I think "he came vaguely close to achieving something" isn't relevant compared to the fact he was a serial sex pest.

He was known as "rapey Alec" for a reason, and I reject the idea that we need to tolerate tributes to such a vile person. I don't care if the people who continued to defend him feel sad about this, I care that his victims are having to read a load of tributes of praise to someone who - in his lawyers' words - only got away with his crimes because there was insufficient evidence for the charge of rape, and if he'd been charged with lesser crimes he'd be in prison.

He was utter scum, and now is a good time to remind people of that.

He was acquited though right? Yes he was dodge, but he also achieved a lot and was a significant player in Scottish and British politics.

I'm not really into celebrating when anyone dies, didn't with Thatcher, wouldn't with Blair, Johnson, Farage or Trump. I may make an exemption for Netanyahu.

He was acquitted due to lack of evidence and his own lawyer admitted that lesser charges would've stuck and still put him in prison.

I think he was abhorrent in both politics and what he did personally. In the list of people you've said you wouldn't celebrate their death, I think Trump is the only one worse than him (also a sex pest and hate-mongerer).
