steviewevie
Louise Haigh! wtf. Saw that story last night and thought it was kind of nothing...but she's gone...and wouldn't be surprised if Morgan McSweeney is kind of behind that resignation. Thought she was pretty good, a shame. steviewevie
Think this resignation hurts Starmer more than her staying on...why was she ok to get cabinet posts in first place if he knew about this conviction? is there some political stuff going on behind the scenes with labour right (i.e. McSweeney) getting rid of someone who's a bit on the left? Just seems so ott, a panic move.

Henrik
Quite remarkable how bad a start this has been for Labour. There is usually a honeymoon period for a new government. Not this time.
steviewevie
The incumbent curse, everyone wants everything fixed now...plus labour and Starmer were never that popular, it was mostly about booting out the Tories. Plus the Tory press are going hell for leather with their attacks. It will all come down to the economy and state of public services by next election, and if forecasts are right it won't be great, but might be better in mid 30s. steviewevie
Maybe assisted suicide will help with the aging population problem.
Henrik
The good news is Labour have plenty of time to win people over. If they don't, I worry we get Reform.

Some poor decisions and poor politics and a badly received budget. The infighting between Sue Gray and McSweeney paralysed them. In their favour is s big majority and it's a long time to the next election.
lazyred
Just caught a bit of the assissted dying debate. Two great speeches in favour from Andrew Mitchell and Kit Malthouse

But yes, they screwed up with the winter fuel payment thing, and the budget was always going to be unpopular with someone and they were hamstrung by various manifesto pledges, and supporting and keeping the NI cuts made by Hunt.
