Not a New Years' resolution, but a thing I've been doing for my own mental health since August is to stop following the news too closely. It's a large part of why I'm not really posting/reading here as much. I've deactivated my twitter account, I'm looking at news less, I've removed all social media from my phone, and I'm trying to spend more time looking/thinking about things I can impact/control, not just depressing news that I can't do anything about.

Also, the "polls" side I just don't care about when an election is 4 years away. It's not news, it's just attempting to sport-ify politics. Instead I've started watching actual sport a bit more where I can disconnect from it the next day.

Wise. I've been thinking of getting more into history... suddenly interested in all that whereas before I found it all very boring.

Prefer the past rather than the scary present and what could be a pretty f**ked future.

History is quite fun to get into. I keep dipping in and out of "The Rise and Fall of the Great Powers". Dense but interesting.

If Reform continue to poll well at some point someone will ask them questions about their policies...like they didn't before last election and their silly manifesto costings...

Reform UK manifesto: a reaction | Institute for Fiscal Studies

Saying that though, manifestos are just total garbage these days...like Labour and Tory pretending there wouldn't need to be significant tax rises (or significant spending cuts).

and kind of funny (not) that the one big legacy from the last government's 14 years apart from austerity that has left the public services on their last legs is the disaster that is Brexit which sucked the life out of everything for 4 years and then left the country economically poorer and more divided, and whole thing was only started because Cameron wanted to kill the threat of Farage/UKIP and they are now left with Farage more popular than ever and Reform replacing the tories for many voters. What a ridiculously dumb own goal.
