small or not, it needs filling unless they're going to break their fiscal rules.

They will break their fiscal rules, all of them do all the time but just move the goalposts to exclude certain things to make it look like they have not.
Other stuff that may well come out today is that their 'long term spending plans' will now be just one year and that rumours re starting that the £20b figure was not only widely known about (LibDems even talked about in during the campaign) but was alos in a memo on RR's desk on day one so nothing they had to search for and find like is suggested.

For people who said we need honesty back they do seem to be trying to avoid being totally honest - we shall see later and over the next few months.................... but if it was all as dire as they say then parliament would not go into recess and that will happen as scheduled.

well it was Hunt using an OBR assessment that was just made up numbers so he get away with NI cuts...and now they can look at actual numbers of what is and isn't funded for each department and work out what is missing and what is needed.

All OBR assessments use numbers provided by the government for all future plans. So if the government is less than honest the OBR report will be unable to be accurate. It has always been the way and always will....................

but how do you know the Tories made up numbers? We only have L:abour's word on that don't we?

no but I am talking about the OBR forecasts for last two budgets they didn't get spending plans from govt so it was all a bit pointless.

Tories were even saying they were going to cut taxes if they got in which was just silly.

but it is not suddenly!!!!

The IFS talked about it during the election, the Lib Dems talked about it during the election...................

It is not and should not be a surprise to anyone - but it seems to be to you and Rachel Reeves.

No but wasn't in obr forecasts or budget. I'm not denying that we didn't know about it because you can't kid the IFS, just that it wasn't in any part of budget forecasts etc. Tories just set it as a trap, knew the OBR weren't going to keep putting up with fictional forecasts, and so called an election.

Revenue gap was known, but specific funding gaps were not known.
