Don't think so It'll be anything the school chooses to buy going forward plus the article seems to suggest they can go back and claim anything from the last 10 years

They will of paid VAT on anything they've bought from a VAT registered company so say a school bus or a builder turning over more than £90k

Thanks I got it the wrong way round. Anyway I've just read the HMRC guidance and I still don't understand it but it looks like a mess with lots of loopholes

VAT is like that though, right? Messy. UK Tax altogether is way too complicated, surely it could be simpler, maybe base it on the number of windows you have.

I could be wrong but it read it as the following:
 

School A switches from charity to VAT registered company.

 

School A who's fees were 10k a year now charges 10k + VAT so 12k a year.

 

School A has 100 pupils so £1 million in fee's and 200k VAT to the tax man BUT

 

School A when it files its first tax return can claim back the VAT on anything its purchased in the last 10 years.

 

School A buys about £500k of stuff a year and has VAT receipts for about 5 million in purchases so 1 million pounds of VAT

 

HMRC rather than getting 200k owe the school £800k

Do Tory government economic policies usually get this amount of scrutiny? 

I guess this is an issue Labour always was going to have, especially when things are so tight and with so many years of underinvestment and with silly promises made by Labour in opposition. The time between election and budget doesn't help either.

And to be clear, I don't think Salmond = sh*t means anyone supports independence is sh*t. I am actively rejecting the bullshit idea that we should only say nice things about someone because they're dead. ok...well...in the end he was not found guilty, there was a whole load of stuff about conspiracies against him from Sturgeon and others...but he was known as a bit too touchy feeling at best which he admitted, a sexual predator at worst which he denied.

So he had that, and also he had this political career where he took SNP from a fringe party to one of power and nearly took Scotland out of the union...which isn't nothing.

So, you can recognise his achievements without saying what a top fella he was.

I've only skimmed it but it basically boils down to this bit?

 

Alex Salmond faced allegations of sexual assault and attempted rape, brought forward by multiple women. By the time the story broke, rumours about his behaviour had already been floating around British politics for many years. During the trial, his own defence described him as “touchy feely” and admitted that he would sometimes act inappropriately. In his closing speech, his QC said that his client “could certainly have been a better man”.

He wasn’t found guilty in the end but, to be very blunt, this does not mean he wasn’t guilty of horrific behaviour towards a string of women. It is possible that the truth will come out now he is gone and it is possible it will not.

 

Worst dregs of humanity is hyperbolic, and I've always thought he was a bit of a c un t
