Next up...Jenrick vs Badenoch. Smart money seems to be on Badenoch, should would be my preferred choice only because she is smarter, more interesting, and to be honest it would be a very positive thing to have a black woman leading one of the main political parties even if she is a stroppy anti woke and anti net-zero warrior. Can't stand Jenrick, although I think Labour would probably prefer him winning over Badenoch.

Low turnout by all accounts, so could be difficult to predict.

Like you I admire Badenoch's calm rationality and her enviable ability to read around her briefs and get on top of things. It's refreshing in a politician even if I don't agree with her stance on a lot of things.

This is what you want in an opposition leader isn't it - to hold a govt and it's decisions to account and keep them on their toes. Otherwise it's more factional psycho-drama.

Jenrick comes across as slippery, unlike Badenoch I've no idea what he really thinks and seems to be doing the Starmer thing of saying one thing to win the vote with members and then likely to pivot once in position.

doh!

Lol, how much has that cost the Govt and markets. The IFS said an extra 9bn of tax rises would be needed in a couple of years. I wonder if they used the wrong OBR figures for that prediction.

I'm quite amazed that the tories have found a new leader who appears to be just as awful as BoJo and Truss, yet awful in a fresh new way unlike her predecessors.

But I have zero doubt she will not be on the ticket in the 2029 election. My guess is she gets 3 years, so about 2 years for the new leader to get embedded before the campaigning starts. No idea who that could be, but if I was a tory with aspirations for the big chair, I'd absolutely be voting for the most unpleasant leader available for the interim.
