Libertines are mid/high Other fodder or even Woodsies headliner level these days - no way they’re getting a high Pyramid slot. No reason to think they couldn’t be there though.

Yeah subbing Other I'd say, like The Streets. The bits I've heard from their new record sound like a return to form to be fair after that dreadful last one.

If there are a stack of names like Stevie Nicks, Sting, Avril Lavigne, Pulp, etc all over the line-up in non-headlining positions then all will be well. However, if there isn't and the likes of PJ Harvey and Gossip are among the big draws then it's all a bit bleak.

I’m on this boat

I used to think this way....

Maybe this years lineup will be the one to truly temper our expectations for future additions, but hopefully not and we’ve just got a few bits of early info that paint a worse picture than what we’re getting.

Is that not what LCD Soundsystem are really as well now though? Woodsies headliners? I was at their 2016 gig and the field was nowhere near full.

To be fair they were up against Coldplay who are always a massive draw. Libertines have been on a steady decline down lineups since headlining Reading/Leeds in ‘15. Plus their set in 2022 sucked so they get relegated down the lineup for that.

I’m not a big fan but enjoyed that set

If it's true they had a conversation about headlining, I'm presuming she's just seen the money of BST and isn't at the farm. Hope I'm wrong though.

I think there is an old quote of Stevie (separate from the Mac) saying she'd like to do it one day, but its from a good while ago.

In fairness to the Libertines, that opening slot on Other is truly awful whoever does it.

Their new tunes sound good, i've always had a soft spot for them so i'd be delighted to see them in a decent slot somewhere. That year they filled in on the Pyramid before Florence was superb.

Feel like I’m at a familiar point in the cycle here. As we get close to poster time I have a long list of acts who are touring and could play, that probably couldn’t realistically fit on the bill in appropriate positions. Then when the poster drops I’m disappointed they’re not all there.

Then I dig into the names and discover new stuff, and zero in on the big names on the bill I do want to see. Get more and more excited as it gets closer.

Then the full line up comes out and loads of them clash.

Then I switch to checking the weather forecast every 7 minutes.

Then I have an amazing time despite forgetting acts I wanted to see.

Its the circle of life.

Yeah it’s a very hard slot to nail and tbh I don’t think a single act who’s done it has come away from it with glowing reviews so maybe I shouldn’t hold it against them too much. Agree on their 2015 slot - that was fun, made even better from the ‘mystery’ surrounding it.

To be fair, if James end up high on the Pyramid, my mate will be over the moon.

They are an arena band, mind you. It isn't exactly forward thinking, but if we're looking to stack a bill with arena bands in the top slots, you could still possibly do it on a budget. (Not saying this would be exciting, mind you.)

Friday

PY: SZA / Doja Cat / The Black Keys
OT: The National
WH: Justice
WO: PJ Harvey

Saturday

PY: Dua Lipa / New Order / The Pigeon Shitectives*
OT: Tenacious D
WH: Jungle
WO: LCD Soundsystem

Sunday

PY: Coldplay / Pulp / James
OT: D-Block Europe
WH: Jessie Ware
WO: Mitski

(*Kings of Leon)

Black Keys almost definitely not playing btw after them slating the festival for apparently lowballing them with the slot they were offered last year.

Edit: oh wait just read your post properly - it was just a hypothetical, ignore me.

Oh yeah, I'd forgot that.

Screw it, Nickelback it is.

The Other opener slot is shite. I'd imagine someone like Ocean Colour Scene or Travis would go down well in it. Easy songs to start the day which would go down well with the Mams and Dad's and the picnic brigade would approve. As long as its a set full of their earlier stuff.

If you're deciding their relentless arena runs aren't worthy of a higher slot, then Stereophonics would smash it.

That has crossed my mind before but they haven't played since 2002 and still manage to tour arenas. I could easily see them subbing the Pyramid if they returned due to the massive gap since they played. Only a few years ago, Kelly Jones was talking about headlining again.
