On second viewing that performance of Arabesque absolutely owns.

It really did! New song with Simz was great too and bodes well not just for the new album but also their stated intention to not record any more Coldplay albums after it but instead focus on collaborations with artists they find interesting.

Coldplay performing Arabesque live at Glastonbury. Unreal.

And another reminder that Everyday Life is one of their best records, if not their best.

Yes but people prefer A sky full of stars, My Universe or something just like it...

I'm a huge Coldplay fan, I like their stuff throughout their career, and I came away with very mixed feelings. Going to watch it back tonight to see if I can make a proper judgement. But ultimately a bit disappointed.

I don't know why it annoyed me so much that he was being so ultra inclusive as to have to tell people the lyrics for the end of The Scientist and Fix You singalongs. That's probably a good thing but it really angered me for some reason!

The start was immense, Yellow was the perfect opener and the atmosphere was electric, but it really tailed off for me with the 4 song "world music" bit and they lost a LOT of people. Encore was good so a real roller coaster.

Strange, strange gig.

It was daft, being that he was doing it after they'd played the songs and everyone had sang the choruses 3 or 4 times already.

Was only sat at home, but was there in 2016, and would agree, both were a bit bonkers.

Not a huge Coldplay fan (don't dislike them just a bit meh) and I wouldn't have gone if not for my wife (she followed me on Fri evening, I went along with her choice on Sat and we divided and conquered on Sun afternoon).  I was very grateful that she had chosen to go as it was a special set (show!?) to be at.  Really enjoyed it (albeit didn't need quite so much chatter but I'll forgive that).

Where we stood the energy in field just dissipated at that point.  I was close to leaving TBH.

Just watching some of the songs on YouTube, is it the first time a headliner has lit up the actual Pyramid like that?

Noticed it during Sky Full of Stars, it was all rainbow coloured... Not seen that before.

They did it in 2011 also.

Overall I enjoyed it, but thought Chris' interlude ramblings were way too long/dull, they missed 2-3 of their best songs and the ME/MJF bit made me cringe so hard I almost turned inside out.  Singing "I Will Try To Fix You" straight into the face of a man with an incurable neurological disease is pure Partridge.  Think about it FFS.

They also did it in 2011, though was all sides this time and up another level in terms of the projections

They seem to be one of these bands that only plays 90mins.

They always seem to lean heavily on their new album (with is fair enough, looking forward rather than backwards) but if they played for 2h it would free up a lots of space for some old favourites.

They played 1 hr 50 at Glasto. Would've been 2 hours + but there was clearly a c*ck up before they were due on.

Ah okay. I wonder if it's something other groups aren't fussed about doing or if Coldplay insist on. Looked good, at least from the drone shots.

I love Arabesque, one of the stand out tracks from that album, the Simz track was fantastic, both in the polished performance and the production which sounded amazing where we were in the field, really pounded.  Probably the 2 songs in the set that others might have considered filler but were stand out performances for me.

There was a fascinating documentary by the folks that did it in 2011…it’s posted here somewhere, worth a watch. Far more complex than it would seem, but highly effective!

Sounds very interesting, if you happen to find it, DM a link or on here. I've had a look around but can't find it.

Thanks! I saw this one actually and then dismissed it because it looked more like a seminar than a doc, but I'll check it out again.

I’ve definitely seen another one that was more hands on actually demonstrated the gear involved…might have actually been on the xl events website!

Haven't watched back yet, and must admit that watching back 2016 in full is a bit of a mixed bag. But in the crowd that year, it was a five-star affair and still sits among my most joyous concert experiences.

2024 is very similar. Holding off watching it because, in the moment, it just swept me away. I can see why it was broadly five-star reviews across the board, but I'm worried some of the magic may go missing otherwise.
