What we thinking to guarantee a good spot? Really like to see Black Pumas and catch the end of Little Simz but does this mean a good chance of not getting reasonably close as I'm presuming not many will be leaving after she finishes??

If you move in when Simz is finished you'll get into the pit

According to this report, Chris Martin initially turned down headlining this year but the festival insisted.

Wouldn't believe the date in the Daily Fail.  Don't click it!

Go in from the sides on the change over between the back crush barrier and the front - there will be an hour in between Little Simz and Coldplay so will be some movement- or go in to middle from sides/ back to the sound stages and just move forward at the change over towards the back crush barrier. Should get a good spot.

Transcript for the feint hearted.

It's perhaps the best accolade any musician could hope for – the Saturday night headline slot on Glastonbury's Pyramid Stage. But Coldplay's ever self-effacing Chris Martin asked the festival's bosses if they really wanted him – for a record FIFTH time.

Glastonbury sources say that the Devon-born singer even offered them the chance to find another option as he felt a little 'embarrassed' to be asked again.Insiders say he first thought the invitation to headline this year was a joke – and he asked organisers of the Worthy Farm extravaganza if they were serious. Martin, 47, is understood to have then suggested they ring round to find another band.

One source told The Mail on Sunday: 'Chris was surprised to be asked again. It will be five times now.

In 2019, Martin revealed he was put off returning there after the band last headlined in 2016. The frontman said hurtful online comments had made him think twice about appearing. Asked by Colin Paterson of BBC Breakfast and Radio 5 Live if he or Coldplay would perform at the festival the following year, Martin simply said: 'No'. Pressed for an explanation, he continued: 'I did pop up on stage last year and I loved doing so.'Then I saw a tweet afterwards which said, "You can always rely on him to come on in a tracksuit and ruin everything." 'So I was like, you know what,
a) I should work on my trousers,
b) I shouldn't be online, and
c) maybe just go and watch Glastonbury for a year or so.'

The band are set to play for two hours, with Dua Lipa headlining the Pyramid Stage on the Friday and SZA on the Sunday.

'His reaction to being asked if Coldplay would play Glastonbury again was just classic. He hadn't seen it coming. 'He was like, "Are you joking?" 'All of the band absolutely love performing at the farm, but Chris's initial thought was that there must be other big names out there who deserved a shot at headlining. 'When Glastonbury came back and said they still wanted Coldplay, of course he said yes. 'To him, it will always be an honour, but surely it was someone else's turn?'

Coldplay, whose hits include Yellow and Viva La Vida, previously headlined the Somerset festival in 2002, 2005, 2011 and 2016, while Martin has made solo appearances on stage in support of fellow headliners Kylie Minogue and Stormzy.

Coldplay's performance on Saturday, June 29, will see Martin's band enter the record books, as no other act has headlined Glastonbury on five occasions.

if thats accurate it just proves what an incredible guy hes is ... absolutely fair play to him . There was someone rushed the stage at one of the gigs recently and instead of being concerned for his own welfare , he was concerned about the guy who fell . Coldplay hate is so god damn ridiculous , they absolutely breath Glastonbury . So looking forward to Sat night

Feel like his hesitance to return to headline is far more to do with him becoming fully aware of the minor backlash he got in being ever present on site in 2019 and some people being sick of them headlining every few years rather than him being so much of a good guy that he wants to give somebody else a turn.

I take his words at face value, and respect him for his seemingly lack of ego. I decided the other day I'm gong to see them, partly as it's many years since I have (2016 at the Etihad), the show will be spectacular, and it'll be my only Pyramid headliner this year.

I’m sure when he steps on to the pyramid stage and sees and hears the huge crowd gathered he will realise that he should have just ignored the critics and on line comments and not let it get to him. It will be the biggest pyramid crowd and the most watched on tv. Said it countless times, there’s plenty of options if it’s not to your taste.

Does anyone else think this highlights the difficulties the festival had signing up headliners this year? If they had to ask Coldplay to do it twice, maybe there just wasn't any other big bands available?

Don't believe a word of it. Basically the house band now aren't they. And 2016 wasn't really the last time either - he basically headlined the COVID set.

There is truth to it. I’ve seen the interview they’re referring to when he talks about reading the online comments.

Yes I think it does, if that really happened. But that aside, I think something strange went all a bit pear-shaped for this years big names. Not sure what but it's almost as if GF was shunned for whatever reason.

The money behind the big names has become beyond even G's reach. Big bands are their own industry now and don't rely on big festival appearances so much, only online promo. It means G has to an extent gone back to it's roots. Less able to chase massive contemporary headliners it becomes more eclectic again now, which I think is actually a good thing.

Added with the fact they’ve pretty much ticked off all of the ‘big’ acts who were willing to do it for the reduced pay over the last fifteen or so years leaving them with stuff like Madonna, Fleetwood Mac, AC/DC etc - the ones who were always gonna be a tough sell to come play for a pittance and most likely won’t ever play now.

Imo, we’ve pretty much seen the end of big 70’s and 80’s acts headlining the festival. The heritage acts are henceforth gonna be stuff from the 90’s and onwards like Foo Fighters, Coldplay, Radiohead, maybe Green Day etc.

Difficult to infer any intentional strategy behind the headline bookings - at least not with trying to go more niche.

Last year they had Reg and this year it seems very likely that they went all out to get Madonna.  SZA may be less of a popular option but its not like she was anything like the first choice.

New album Moon Music (😂) out in October. Reckon Glastonbury will be the kicking off point for the promo for it, possibly debut their new single there or something.

Hopefully the music will be better than the title.

Pretty sure the fans of today (including myself) don't mind about the title and know that whatever they bring live it'll be a party 😚
