First poster is out.

Thoughts? Recommendations?

As expected I know a few on there but not many. Possibly more than I expected too.

It'll be my first time at Shambala this year, and I'll be stewarding for Oxfam. A few of my regular festival going mates are going too.

Looking forward to it. Never done one this late in summer before so like that festival season's being stretched out for me.

There’s a few decent things on there, unfortunately (much like every festival) not many big names, even compared to the last few years.

‘but we dont go for the music’ I hear you cry, which is fine, but last year all the micro venues were rammed you used to be able to pitch up at the start time but now its get there an hour in advance much harder to bumble around, house party had crushes to get in on the Friday which is where I guess Hot Cakes Takeover will be, huge queues to get into the enchanted woodlands after dark. You need big names because you need the majority of punters to be at the main stage where the room is.  I couldn’t even pick the obvious headliners out of the lineup. Maybe Henge for Friday night? Bob Vylann Sunday evening after closing ceremony.

I love shambala but this year there’s a lot of changes without Kaleida coming in, and the new site layouts, although maybe its just me I’ve been enjoying it less and less the last few years. Might be a good thing and attract fewer people who just wanna get High as possible and dont appreciate the vibe.

I reckon Sampa the Great and Congos headliners.

Maybe Bob Vylan or Henge the third one?

Love shambala, even when you’ve not heard of the acts they are always so well booked. They’re great more often than not.

congos are great i've seen them a few times familiarise yourself with "heart of the congos" to know the stuff they're likely to perform.

Got a problem, currently no way in to Shambala

That's a shame - I know there's been some changes this year, is your usual route no longer there?

Best I can suggest is to camp out on the Oxfam volunteer site the same way people are doing for Glastonbury. Based on past form, there's a pretty high chance spots come up on multiple occasions between now and the festival especially in the immediate run up.

Also check MyCause as well, as they have a "waiting list" function, though it's a comparatively small crew so much less likely something comes available.

The craft area coordinator has changed so we’ve lost our place

Someone just posted in the shambala chat group on Facebook, they’re hiring for bar jobs at the moment through https://refreshwest.eventmaster.jobs/events/oSQFYN97Wne09J0c2qBR

not sure if that’s any good for you, but it’s all I got!

Feels like there’s a lot more tickets still available this year, think general admission has sold out by March last year and they only had coach/cycling/ train tickets left.

Wonder if it’s the same across all (non Glastonbury) festivals

Yeah, I noticed that. My group went from 25 people down to 10 of us this year, generally most want to try the smaller, cheaper festivals.

I've got a ticket, but bit on the fence now for the same reason - i'm going to The Wild Gardens down in Port Eliot, and that was only £80 for the weekend, with a very good lineup, so can see why.

There’s a smaller festival called rise festival that has 2 out of shamabalas 3 headline acts, and it’s £60 for a weekend ticket. Also has Dub pistols and a few other ‘acts people have actually heard of’

I don’t really mind if it it doesn’t sell out it’s great for me, hopefully less queuing than last year, but doesn’t look good for them long term.

Do you have a link or more info on the 'Rise Festival'? All I can find is a similarly named festival taking place high up in the Alps in winter.

The reason for my info request is that myself and a friend are looking for a small (cheap) festival, ideally in the West Midlands, or thereabouts.

I think the reference is to The Rising - https://www.risingfestival.co.uk/

It's being run for the first time this year, and is being put together by some crew who were involved with Bearded Theory (though not the main organisers) prior to it being sold last year.

Thank you both for responding. It's greatly appreciated - especially as I now know the information that I need. I had heard of 'The Rising' festival before from a friend who is going to it. I just never put the two together (Rise and The Rising). That's the territory of the imbecilically confused, for you. Oh well, we all have our own cross to bear (only we don't).

Unfortunately I couldn't make the date of that festival. Otherwise there was a chance that I was going to get to go to it. I have a long term booked appointment on the Friday and Saturday of the festival. I've arranged to see and drink with some old friends in a place which oozes 'be normal'. Not too sure how that's going to go, if I'm honest.

It was 'any' different festival to those dates is what I was after - no matter how low scale. All we want to do is to camp somewhere where everyone's on the lash, so that we may hide amongst them, while also being on the lash.

Thanks both, once again.

Oxfam places came up today and I've bagged one.

I was looking to clock up my 2nd and Shambala suited me best so quite pleased

Congrats, for my taste it's one of the better ones to work at. Unlike Glastonbury, most of the Oxfam spots are either on Campsites or in and around the action so shifts don't tend to drag as much stuck on an outpost waiting for something to happen. Best is if you get posted to an actual venue which can be great fun.

Still Shambala Oxfam places, but no Campervan or Caravan spaces, so I'm ruled out.

Ah, that's a shame and a slight surprise given how much space the Oxfam field has (assuming it hasn't changed, they usually have far more than most staff areas on site). May well be a struggle to find something that does allow for vans this late on tbh.
