Bloc Party - Other Stage 2024

Given that Bloc Party are doing their big Silent Alarm, 20 years of Bloc Party show at Crystal Palace in July does anyone know whether they will do the same/similar set at Glasto.

Last time I saw them was in 2022 on the last album tour and my enthusiasm for their set would be very different based on how much old stuff they play.

I'm still pretty sure I'll see them whatever but if I knew it was going to be a Silent Alarm set I would be a lot more excited.

Glasto hardly ever has album in full sets + that crystal palace show is quite one-off

they always play a good amount of silent alarm anyway

I hope it is, I love that album and am quite fond of the next one as well but really struggle with anything after that, I was a bit bored the last time I saw them live as just not interested in the newer stuff. I’d go to Crystal Palace as very near me but it’s too soon after the festival and I can’t get away with another day/night out

Bloc Party on Other in 2005 was one of my favourite Glastonbury sets of all time, if it's half as good as that we'll be laughing!

Yeah Other in 2005 was good- was that the time where Kele kept introducing songs as a "slow jam"?

I thought but they were even better when they headlined the NME tent at Reading that year.  That is one of my favourite times of seeing them.  Just looked back and saw them 6 times in 2005 - 2006.

yeah, only one I can remember is when Primal Scream did Screamadelica.

You would think Crystal Palace is a one off - but I think they did a tour and Ally Pally 5 years ago doing the same thing...

I think you are right though it'll be different.  Hopefully the best of silent alarm +hits.

That is exactly how I feel.  On that last tour I found it so hard to care about the new stuff...but loved hearing the old stuff.  They are one of the only bands where I feel like this, I usually have very high acceptance of bands playing new and less popular stuff.

Frightened Rabbit did a full set in 2016 (?) as well tbf. I'm sure Courteeners did too one year.

Im excited for Bloc Party. Great to have them back at the farm after so long.

ahh no way, I missed FR that year because I was seeing them a Latitude the following month and Norwich later in the year.  They were touring painting of a panic attack.  Did they play the modern Leaper? If so I was a fool for missing it!

When I last saw them quite a few years ago I felt the old stuff was a little flat, the new members did a good job but Gordon and Matt were the real driving force.

I'll still go and see them and have a good time, but that 2009 Other headline show was something else!

I really miss Gordan and Matt as well. For me they haven't been the same since they lost them.

Somebody has already asked Russell if it’ll be a Silent Alarm set and he said ‘pretty much’ so I’m expecting most of Silent Alarm (maybe bin off last couple of songs) + hopefully Two More Years and/or Flux at the end, which would be brilliant.

Album sets not usually done at Glastonbury, but think this is one of those times where most of the crowd will be there wanting/expecting exactly that so great way to ensure it goes down really well. I’ll for sure be there.

They've pretty much not been doing Silent Alarm in full at any of their other festival bookings, though.

Would be surprised if it's too much different to this, give or take a couple of changes. This was an hour set.

Yeah but that was last year whilst they weren’t in the middle of a Silent Alarm run of shows, and also why would Russell say ‘pretty much’ if he meant ‘not at all’?

Hence bar a couple of changes!

Yeah I think a bunch of the post-Strokes bands are a bit like this. Love Interpol but I don't really want to hear anything of theirs live beyond Antics which was released in 2005, nor do I really want to hear much later career Franz Ferdinand, Libertines (though I'm told their new record actually isn't bad...) etc.

If you love Interpol, your post-Antics comment is weird. I can give you ten songs without thinking that would be brilliant in any set. I acknowledge their first three albums are the best and TOTBL is the greatest album ever 😉

Pioneer

Heinrich

Lights

All The Rage

Toni

If You Really Love Nothing

Rest my Chemistry

The Lighthouse

Barricade

Mammoth

I could name more off the most recent albums but I'd have to check song names.

Forgot No I in Threesome too.
