Last year, that venue is female only I think.

However, this year it has been opened up to everyone.

Friend went in 2022 when it opened and said it was wicked, proper cool inclusive space. Shame if they've closed it for the terfs or the "when's mens day" crowd like.

It just seems at odds with the festival ethos of everyone partying together regardless.  Opening it up to everyone, so long as they respect the vibe is probably the right thing to do - just like the NYCD.

When you hear these horror stories basically every lass has had at festivals/ gigs, it feels very much in the "ethos" of the festival to have a space that people know theyll be free from harassment. Also a space to celebrate feminism in all its forms. But, I'm sure they've considered it carefully before changing it.

I don't even know if it was a used space? Potentially it was quite empty or something.

Tend to get packed early doors. If you’re not there with 20-30 mins to spare, you’ll be stuck in the alleyway at the back.

That sort of space makes sense. If that is indeed what the space is for it would seem odd to hide it in probably the most overcrowded area of the festival which is inaccessible to the people who might need it at precisely the times it is most needed.

Every space should be free from harassment and it’s on all of us to call it out if we see it, as with any vile behaviour.  So I don’t see it as a solution to the problem, segregation sucks.

Normally, I wouldn't recognise any names on there, but thanks to the help of others leading upto 2023, I know a few, lol.

Camelphat, Ewan McVicar for starters.

Afriquoi were brilliant in 2017 on WH, can't recommend them enough. I'm in the tie-dye on the barrier to the left.

They (Afriquoi) played a DJ set in 2019 on The Bug and it was absolutely mint as well.

Was at both sets both times massive numbers of people who were walking past stopped what they were doing to come watch and dance. They proper put a smile on your face.

This is a good question - could see it being busy for only a few hours at the peak of the night then quiet down quite quickly.

The policy i think is justified but it basically rules out 90% of people, not 50% as most people are going around in mixed gender groups anyway.

Had no idea they did DJ sets. Something new to search for over the weekend, cheers!

Their 2017 show was unreal. We walked up to the barrier, couldn't believe how easy it was, barely 200 people there sitting around in front of the stage when they began. We'd listened to them quite a bit before and expected to squeeze in around the sound tent. Half an hour later the field was rammo just from their energy and tunes drawing ppl in.

After another scan over the posters, I see Vlure on there. First stumbled across them at Latitude a few years back but they were also runners up in the Emerging Talent Competition in 2023. Loads of fun on the BBC Intro stage last year and I weirdly managed to catch them on the Hive late on Friday night whilst bimbling. Well worth catching if you like synth-driven post-punk with loads of rave energy. They also do a decent cover of God Is A DJ.

there are lots of stages/areas in the se corner and ive got to admit i dont venture there much. does anyone know in general terms what style of dance music is played in what area? like, how does the dance music in silver hayes differ from arcadia/shangri-la/block 9/the common?

i know things will cross over but im guessing they have differing vibes??

Silver Hayes - mostly tech house

Block9 - almost entirely techno

Shangri-la - bit of a mix

The Common - more dnb based

Arcadia is a mix, friday/sat usually very random then sunday has been dnb recent years

What are you looking for? theres a few other bits like beat hotel too

This is very useful. I’m generally more into Vocal or Disco House and Trance so Downlow, the Glade, Arcadia and Green Peace tend to be my go to places.

Someone else asked this already on another thread but does anyone know if Smash Hits playing on Nowhere in Shangri La is the 90s covers band? Looking for an alternative to Rhythm of the 90s who don’t seem to be listed yet. Otherwise I think when we get the full lineup there’s usually a link to each artist so maybe it will be clearer then.

I also stumbled by in 2022 and asked if I could go in for a nosey, the very nice person who was acting a door person basically said no. I said isn't that discrimination and it doesn't seem to be very glasto (me being curious and NOT in confrontation way) she repied saying it's unfortunate they have to do this, but if I really really wanted to go in she would have to let me, but she does not want me to go in becuse they want to make it a safe space.

Implying they've have problems.

I didn't go in

I think all festivals (/ events more generally) have problems unfortunatly Bob.  Plenty of men simply hadn't act respectfully and normally, even without drink and drugs in them. Whether this space actually changed/ helped things I obviously don't know.

Psychedelic Porn Crumpets sneakily added to the Peace poster that Shangri La have just posted on socials. Couple of gaps in the schedule where they could fit in, but the 45 minutes (4.00-4.45am) between the two DJ Chris Tofu sets on Saturday seems to make the most sense given PPC’s Park set is the next day.

Maybe they'd had enough of bants-loving edgelords hassling the staff by saying they identify as attack helicopters and so on.
