Yeah, did wonder that, then thought a Mexican rave could be quite possible at Glastonbury and I'd missed something 😅

Sounds good to me!  Sombrero hats and moustaches.  I'm in.

Pretty sure @Nuthuggermeans ‘Mexican waves’ where cheers sweep from one side of the valley to the other!

I'm a bit clueless, what's a Mexican rave?

no a mexican wave is literally the thing you see at football matches when people put their hands up. mexican raves were the cheering version. they were really cool. theyd sweep across the whole site (this was when there was less to do on a weds/thurs lol)

erm... I remember them well. But it's still a mexican wave but with voice instead of hands.

Never heard it be called a mexican rave before.  Don't think google has either from my quick search!

and im sure if you operate your fancy google machine and put mexican wave into there youll see a lot of hands going up and down giving the impression of a wave. this is a different thing hence the different name - going in line with the whole language thing we do.

& whats with the 'erm..'? does it make you feel big trying to make someone feel stupid?

I'm happy you call it that and don't really care too much - you can call it what you like.  It's not a widely used term though is it, otherwise the fancy google machine would know about it.

Was going to come in here and say over the past ten years what really struck me is there is now a bit more rudeness, anger and animosity in the crowds I've experienced. But it appears that has also spread here too now 😉

On the whole though the crowds are still better than anywhere and a pleasant places but the number of incidents I've witnessed had gone up over the decades.

Oh, and it doesn't seem more crowded to me - 2000 in general and even Rolf Harris, I think at West Holts, was way worse than anything I've seen recently, Everything Everything, The Smyths and Power Ballads have seen crazy crowds at Williams Green but it never felt unsafe.

no it wouldnt be widely used because i only ever experienced it at glasto and as alluded to it doesn't happen any more. but just so you know a 'mexican wave' is well known to be a collective hand movement. so if you say 'lets start a mexican wave' in a crowd and shout aaaaahhhhhhhh you might get some funny looks. because thats not what a mexican wave is.

I've experienced something similar at Reading Festival where everyone was just shouting "BOLLOCKS!" at the top of their voices on the first days, but I'd never heard it called a Mexican Rave. Not saying it's not known as that though. When I started going Glastonbury, I don't remember it being as prominent as at Reading, prob because there's more to do on the Weds and Thurs, whereas at Reading it was like every hour or so and got real old, real fast.

I noticed that. I had to go back and clang it or it just didn't feel right.

"If you long drop and there is no clang, did you even drop long?"

Correct, not as if you can look down into the abyss and identify your own.

Much improved toilets . Can’t quite remember when the onsite portaloos dissapeared might have been a fair bit earlier but the facilities are much better looked after in my opinion these days

I'll take that as a compliment to my son, who is a Loo Crew Supervisor. I can't take any credit - I'll be on the water bars.

I've always enjoyed a short time at Glastonbury-on-Sea. The first year it was there I won a rosette at the bingo.

The water bars are also an excellent change in the last 10 years, along with the ban of selling single use plastic bottles across the festival, so you can take some credit for that! 😄

Wow is it really that long … however my point does stand about the toilets generally wateraid do a really decent job along with the introduction of the composters

They were still at Other stage in 2007. Bloody horrible, especially in all that mud. Think they went completely in 2008/9.

for anyone missing that noise

Years ago (10+), someone shared a tune on here called (I think) “The Sound of the Long Drops” which set a recording of the clanging doors to a techno beat. It was absolutely brilliant. Can I find it? Nope.

I think 1 of the arguments for switching the fallow year from 2011 to 2012 was that the Olympics would need a f**k-ton of portaloos, so they must've still been used at glasto then

Yep, I camped in South Park in 2011 and can distinctly remember there were portaloos for our campsite.

I have never seen portaloos tardis's at Glastonbury inside the fence and I've been going since 2009.

I think the main reason was A&S police said they wouldn't be able to cover the event.
