Sad news for the future of RW. Good for them, but probably time to look for other alternatives soon.

How is this sad news? It's only encouraging that this choice is paying off, no? I would even agree if this was a small name, but  Rodrigo is huge (2 times Sportpaleis). If they can only sell out because of older names, then they would have a problem for the future....

It's these newer headliners (and festival goers) that give them the opportunity to go on for another 50 years.

How can it be sad news for RW? Might be sad news for some people that go there but for the actual business they’ll be over the moon.

Same with BST this year, has struggled to sell in prev years yet this year with Olivia, Sabrina, Noah it’s flown out.  Can certainly see what’s popular these days

The sad news part was personal, as the festival then probably will continue to go in another direction that I want. I wrote that it was good for them didn't I? I totally understand that they will do whatever they can to maximize profit, so if it pays off for RW they will continue to do it. Would be interesting to get intel on what they make in on-site revenue, say on the Thursday & Friday compared to Sunday though..

Can't keep booking bands from the 90s/00s, all because the punters like to get drunk.

I see your point though. I took my daughter to see Mitski at All Points East last summer, no wait for the bars all day.

We’ve picked up 2 of the 2 person MySpace spaces for 4 of us

i Presume there wouldn’t be any issue with us picking up a third for social space/chairs etc!?

You'll be fine - quite a few did that this year and popped a 2x2 gazebo in there - although if there's strong winds forecast they ask you to take the coverings off them.

Looking at her schedule (in Europe whole July) can't believe Patti Smith is not booked 😟 not only for this but any festival.

She is playing DTRH on the same weekend and I believe she will be at RW too. She's just not announced yet.

I would agree. I think it's a case now of now or never and not easy now without a job. It's good for business naturally and Thursday is the strongest day act wise obviously so far but for Friday not to be equalling sales the name of Rock Werchter will eventually be just in name and not in band.

Are we expecting another announcement this side of Christmas? A friend has asked me about it so it's worth knowing as with someone vs solo would make a difference.

Did an artist ever play both RW and WB the same year? I would have love to see Jorja at RW

I’m pretty sure they don’t.  As soon as it was announced people on FestiLeaks said they were all ruled out.

Well, I guess this confirms the trend discussed here and in other threads - the lineups/experience focused narrowly a certain demographics do better than a general, more diverse lineup. Hardly a surprise but I am wondering what does that mean for Werchter going forward.

Thursday and Sunday feel like 2 completely different things tbh, more like 2 Boutique day than 1 event. Given the growing share of daily tickets as mentioned last year, I just wonder if we will see more diverse but rather monotone days (e.g. Fred Again day / Metallica day)?

Fri/Sat feels like a standard Werchter lineup to me but they're not sold out yet and I dare to say it's not due to headliners as GD is arguably as strong as LP/OR. I am curious who will be added to Thu/Sun now.

Anyway, tickets bought, Werchter and Rock for People for me next year 🙂

Green Day are into the 2nd year year of extensive touring. That's perhaps why it has0n't sold as quick.

If they continue down this path, it will definitely mean that they will focus more on selling day tickets rather than combos. Things can change before the final line-up is released, but right now the difference between Thursday and Sunday are so severe that you won't find many people embracing both. I'll give them this last chance, as I've already bought tickets, but if the divide continue to grow before the final line-up is revealed, I unfortunately think this will be my last addition. Hopefully there will be a lot of good undercards that can create some more diversion in terms of genres, but looking back at last year I'm not convinced.

I think for instance to sell the combis now they’ll have to add lots of Pop/Indie/dance to the Thursday and then Indie/Rock/Dance to the Sunday.  I can see Friday and Saturday just being filled with more generic stuff like the leak for Franz and Weezer show I guess.

They’ve clearly made the decision to make those 2 days specifically for an audience as they’re normally the hardest to sell.

If they do that, it's fine as I don't care too much about the headliners anyway. However if they don't they have sold me a product I didn't anticipated, where I've kinda paid for what I expected for three days, and the last one was a completely different product.

Are combis struggling to sell? If they are struggling, I don't think they are as its only December.

2024 - june sold out

2023 - may sold out

They will just just take a certain amount of combis off, sell more day tickets.

As you'd imagine green day will sell out eventually.

Looking at the sunday lineup, they've only announced 7 out off a possible 25+ acts.

Oh I didn’t mean they’re struggling just meant they’ll fill the days out (Thurs/Sun) with acts that’ll help sell more tickets and be the opposite of the LP/OR type acts

It's rare I've seen a Rock Festival booked with so much crowd split between the first two and second two days. Generally speaking even with Weezer ro come that's a poor Green Day supporting can't based on them as a booking in my opinion. It looks like it's been booked as a weekend festival to sell day or two days packages. And while I get there is two separate days sold out, that shows completely different from the weekend feel which certainly hasn't had the best social response considering it's the only festival around to see all of LP, Green Day and Olivia at. I would still expect a hell of a lot more than just filler which for me Weezer would be. But my debate there would be why would I need to travel to Belgium for it when a festival up the road already booked it and either are guaranteed the weather?...no doubt it's better organised I agree but one day 3 days into open day is certainly a different gig than 4/5 days of it.

I'm sure the lineups not curated just to suit just yourself. 🤣

No but in general as an overall look the rock in rock werchter is lacking. Whether to my tastes or not, it's still very easy to see the difference between Thursday and Friday vs Saturday and Sunday....it's like two different festivals booked it. That's nothing to do with an individual taste.

Amuses me a little that Simple Minds before Green Day was the same flow as was seen at Isle of Wight earlier this year. Feels like one for the meme about getting two nickels and it not being a lot, just weird it happened twice.

Yeah I thight Green Day day at IOW was really really weak, like all the money was spent on them.
