Just been looking at that line up and hopefully there's loads of crossover with the undercard for Werchter. Massive Attack, FKA Twigs, Patti Smith, Bloc Party, Viagra Boys, Wunderhorse would all be welcome. Durand Jones, Fat Dog, Geordie Greep, Gurriers, Nieve Ella, JV&B and The Lathums would be great acts for The Slope/low down on the main stages too

Forest fires in LA have shaken some things up. Some artists have delayed their tour until 2026. One of the reasons we are still waiting for new announcements.
Other reason: sales are running very smoothly. Even the saturday, because yeah, it is the Saturday and other days are sold out. Combi’s will sell out too. No pressure to announce early January.

Not a good evolution futurewise to get the best possible line ups. Pukkelpop is the same. Difficult times for the small Belgian festivals, but not for the big ones.

But… normally very soon more news.

With Pukklepopp next week I do hope something comes this week otherwise it’s going to be another couple of weeks yet.

Surprised people who might have played RW have postponed though, surely there wasn’t anyone particular big and unexpected to come?

Great to hear from you Ken, thankful for the info as always!

It's a bit disheartening to hear that they're in no rush when people are torn about what decisions to make but with the ticket sales going well it's unsurprising. If I've understood that last bit right it sounds like next year's line up could be very good currently as RW is not struggling?

With the way Ken has said "very soon more news" makes me very hopeful that they're aiming for before the end of the week.

I do agree with you though, but just from an earlier message from Ken regarding the Thursday, coupled with the fact in the last press release it mentioned the headliners plus Simple Minds, Raye and Noah Kahan it made me think someone was on course to appear on that Thursday before LP (which would have been mad because it's already a fairly stacked day).

Does the fires issue mean there's a risk of people on the lineup already that are major dropping out?

I read that a bit as the future generally doesn't look great? It looks a bit like the festival is going to change a lot in the future more so than it is already potentially?, which I suppose is fine for them if it sells tickets.

I would say you are overthinking it. The way I interpreted the post was if tickets were selling well, there's no need to get any more expensive acts.

Which is what most festivals do now, very top heavy across the board.

Agreed mate, it’s what they do as the big names are the ones that will sell the majority of the tickets (as shown by this year).  I still expect plenty of good acts but they’ll be the ones that are doing the rounds.

let’s hope we find out tomorrow

It's not just about sales tactics but the economics plays important factor too - as big headliners are taking a larger cut of the pie, the rest of the lineup has to be booked with less.

I was just talking about Kens post a few hours ago. Basically what I got from it was get the big hitters out, tickets sales doing really well. So no need to spend any more money than needed to, which in turn gives out a watered down line up/product.

We are on the same page. My point is just that on top of festival's desire/need to have strong medium names given the strong sales, there's also an economic factor as well. As the festivals have certain capacity and prices are going up at moderate rate (compared to artist costs) the pool of money available for undercards is shrinking because headliners are taking much bigger share vs. in the past.

Can't imagine RW sharing a big batch of names before Pukkelpop starts their ticket sale then. So it will be half Februari at the earliest if we don't het anything before PkP starts building their momentum.

True, forgot about the ticket sale too so yes probably not until the week after that so 17th Feb at the earliest!! Seems a long time away.

(Although @Ken19 does indicate it won’t be that far away I guess)

17th Feb would be embarassingly late by the way, by today's standards, to wake up from your winter sleep.

Totally agree, everyone who hasn't got a ticket will have probably had their head turned elsewhere by then.

Was convinced it would be today with the last 2 being Thursdays at 12pm (UK time). Just reading through the comments and interpreting what Ken said, it is obviously good from them that they can take their foot off the accelerator in terms of ticket sales already, but it really puts me in mind of 2017. KOL/Arcade Fire/Imagine Dragons/Radiohead/System of a Down/Linkin Park/Blink 182/Alt-J/Foo Fighters the only 9 names that they had out (all quite interesting and/or big appealing names at the time) and they practically sold out before Christmas. The line up was then largely very phoned in, and I know a lot of people who booked early thinking they were going to be part of an all-timer line up were disappointed and went elsewhere the year after.

It was a shame because 2018 was potentially the best festival they've put together in the last 10 years, looks even better in hindsight as loads of the smaller bands went on to become massive too. But if memory serves me right they only had Pearl Jam, Gorillaz, QOTSA and Nick Cave announced before Christmas and they were competing with a massive year in terms of quality. Think Mad Cool, Nos and a few more sold out but I don't think Werchter ever fully did.

Anyways, I do still think there'll be an announcement before the end of the week, I'll be stunned if they went into February with what they've got so far

Makes total sense to be fair that we haven't had an announcement this week so far if they've added Judas Priest to Graspop and a major drop today. The fact they've dropped their second batch today makes me hopeful for tomorrow...
