I still think there's a big band or two hiding behind embargos that we aren't aware of yet, I don't think it's a coincidence that we're probably the most in the dark for a festival season that we have been since the pandemic

I know Fender isn’t the biggest band (well, in terms of ticket sales at the minute he might be haha) but this is what I was getting at with this point. Fender was barely mentioned in this forum til last week and suddenly he’s headlining.

I’m optimistic there’s still a surprise or two hidden away. Someone like Vampire Weekend appearing before Fender or maybe a rogue sub for Green Day like Korn or Slipknot just to really spice things up!*

(Aware both of those will likely play Graspop but I’m intrigued to see who we get here)

I think they’ll try and get a fairly big sub under him tbf.  Could be that someone like Olivia Rodrigo or FredAgain appears (although they could prob both headline outright)

Getting exciting now with names added, I’m really looking forward to the package of names

I know they like repeats but jesus that's overkill. Definitely won of those cases of his album sales not reflecting his live sales as they are poor for Belgium.

Tbf I like Sam, was tempted to try for tickets but £85 was too much before Christmas.  Now this and Green day and I’m suddenly up to nearly a RW ticket price already

He had a huge crowd in 2023..

Fair but that that strikes me aava lack if options. 3 times in 4 years in something that for a UK festival we would be calling ridiculous.

@sisco yeah i don't factor that in. If you'd have gone for Sam it's inside so no weather elements either. I'd say just those two is a little bit off a Werchter ticket yet at £265 basic. Based on that you could say oh 3 headliners pays for it, it doesn't really and if they thought it did and you got the rest for free they would charge much more even with country prices comparison. For example too, I saw sum 41 last night...seating which is a rare but new thing now as I could actually see the band on stage as apposed usually to a festival unless I'm really close as I'm short....even then I might not be able to. And the cost for that is worth much more than potentially watching it in the rain lol.

I have to admit I'm not impressed with Fender (for my personal taste) as a headliner especially given the ticket price. He is good enough as an undercard but I haven't been aware of him being popular enough to headline. He might be more popular though in Belgium than in my home country.

The rain and outside doesn’t bother me in the slightest.  Festivals are always massive value to me as I have a wide range of tastes.  Seeing Sam and Green day will save me paying out for their individual gigs, same it LP get announced so it would pay for my ticket instead.

Looks like he’s headlining Glastonbury too.  Think it’s another Dua Lipa, when she was announced it was seen as a bit is she big enough, since Glasto, Werchter and the rest she’s shown she is.  Hes a massive ticket seller at the moment tbf

Well, to be fair, Dua Lipa is a hit machine and has 66 million plays on Spotify per day in contrast to Mr Fender.

I agree, and that would have massively increased after the fests this year however same comparisons are always made, especially with new headliners

Not saying it bothers you, I hate it personally but it's not the same experience or situation which is why I can never say oh Werchter costs £265. Based on that once you have 4 bands your ticket even booking the hive is probably covered on just the 4 headliners, if the was a general all round feeling from the band and festival for the punters then either the festival would be a few hundred quid more or the band just would stick to their gigs as they would be losing out on money.

Big example ill give you too...look how much festival goers leave if weather is bad as it's like enough is enough. You're not leaving the co-op arena for example are you....there lies money factoring differences. Standing potentially in rubbish cold weather is the worst but thats the chance you take vs not needing to take the chance.

Bearing in mind Glastonbury share generally one headliner with Werchter, I think only 2016 had been different and 2022 there wasn't one I don't think even difference stage crossover. I know Sam is a possible option replacement etc but if Werchter have him and Olivia I wouldn't guarantee them both, her being at Werchter and not Glastonbury would be a difference maker. My guess is they have Olivia hence wanted to delay Fender.

2025 Glastonbury headliner gets announced for 2025 Rock Werchter and everyone moans. He's not SZA!

This is the internet. Everyone likes moaning on here.

Tbf I didn't realise the Belgians held Fender in such high regard. But then Editors have headlined Werchter so maybe they are capable of such a move and in fairness, if Fender's playing stadiums here in the UK than why not.

Did Fender finish with canceling shows a few days before them? Still remember how he didn't play at half of the announced festivals in 2022.

He has a serious health condition which caused that

Plenty I would take from that Roskilde announcement - Fontaines DC, Beth Gibbons, Electric Callboy, Faye Webster, The Hu, MO, Fat Dog. Just copy and paste them over here!

Beth Gibbons 😍

Not massively bothered about a Fender headline but Fontaines are one of my favourite (and one of the best) bands going so that's a big bonus, cheers Ken. Would be amazing if they closed out the Barn one night.
