Happy New Year all 🙂 Great to see some movement on this again! Some people thought we knew all 3 headliners in December, based on whispers overheard by those in the know. This goes to show that, however well placed such sources are, they are often wrong or lack details on the contract and negotiations. Remember, everything's just a rumour until it's confirmed by the festival!

I agree. One of the festival's perceived selling points in previous years was a lack of obvious corporate sponsorship, but those days are over. The number of competitions to win tickets has risen dramatically over the past few years. Sure, commercial material may not be plastered all over the walls of the festival when you're there but during the three or four months leading up to it, it feels like there's a new "official partner" every week. I'm not necessarily against it per se (apart from the more competition entries there are, the fewer tickets available in the sale) but let's not kid ourselves and think that the festival isn't beyond selling a certain part of its soul out and hasn't been for some time. Maybe it's just the way it is and in the current climate of artists seemingly preferring to place more importance on their own stadium shows ahead of a Glastonbury appearance, in order to book the calibre of heritage/megastar artists they've booked in the last 25 years, a little more commerciality is a necessary evil? If you don't like that direction, maybe it's time to look elsewhere to an event that matches your ethics? I don't think we're far off a carefully selected significant sponsorship deal, no doubt they've been approached by a large number of interested parties over the years but have been in a strong position to decline. Is that something they might have to consider in order to safeguard the festival? And how would everyone feel about that? Top 3 wasn't enough. Girls Aloud (twice!!!) at the NEC, Birmingham. Shows of my entire life. Bring Me The Horizon at NIA, Birmingham. Got disturbed towards the end of the show when a woman was waving a phone in my face. Took me a second to register she was showing me her selfie, with me in the background screaming along to Can You Feel My Heart. Pretty funny, gotta say. The 1975 at the NEC, Birmingham. Fifth time, but always a guaranteed blaster of a show. Will never not go and see them. Fontaines DC at The Civic, Wolverhampton. Great package. Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds at the NEC, Birmingham. 2 hours of songs that take on a life of their own when performed on stage. Mesmerising. Frank Carter at The Wulfrun, Wolverhampton. Reigning it in these days, but still a great frontman. Smashing Pumpkins at the NIA, Birmingham. Sounded incredible. Played for over 2 hours, pushing past curfew. IDLES at Cardiff Castle. What a drama getting there. Twisted tracks, cancelled trains, sweaty fiasco of men piled high in the train toilet. Worth it in the end. Dayseeker at the Institute, Birmingham. A few elevated tunes away from being main stage mainstays at Download and the like. Could be a big deal this time next year. Take That at the NIA, Birmingham. Girlfriend was getting wound up by all the women in TT tshirts knocking around town while we were having a drink. Bought the tickets in the pub about 30 minutes before Olly Murs took to the stage.

This is what I can’t get over. She’d be great but don’t think she’s got the appeal people think. Lido is 25,000 and not sold out. Yes she had the O2 just before, but Fontaines sold out 45,000 tickets at Finsbury at a similar ticket price and had multiple nights at Ally Pally around the same time.

Glastonbury shouldn’t be dictated to by the BBC, it should be the other way round
