Carhenge 2024

🤣 I kinda agree. I think Car Henge in itself is great, but it's tainted by the loss of the great stage it replaced.

It's not even just the stage.

The stuff outside made it (combined with the meeting point) a nice place to catch your breath, sit and eat, people watch, etc.

Now that's all gone and it's an unwelcoming wasteland.

I was never particularly into Williams Green so don’t miss it.

I like the idea of Car Henge but things like Arcadia and the SE corner etc work for me as art installations as there is a musical backdrop.

Take the DJ line-up from any of the smaller SE or Silver Hayes areas and put them in an area with Car Henge or a stage (or a decent bandstand at Glastonbury on sea) and I’d like them.

yep glasto needs more techno EDM music and DJs - theres a very few little areas that still don't have it yet

Slightly disappointed but I'll reserve judgement. I'm not one of the die hard williams green fans. I quite like car henge as an installation and had some real hopes it could grow into something pretty epic... not sure this is ambitious enough for its second year out though and looks like it'll just end up as flat as last year. I think it's a real shame, a lot of potential there... we'll see

I didn’t actually mean more of them - If cost is the issue, as has been suggested, I was just suggesting moving them to a better (or additional) venue.

i’m not against there being a stage with bands there, I can just imagine that is a more significant expense.

I thought it was pretty cool as did most of my mates, but then we never spent time at WG (which seemed like a v generic stage). Obvz if people did really love WG for the music it's always going to pale in comparison, but I think a much larger proportion of people enjoy glastonbury for exactly these type of installations, than are represented on here.

It probably is cool as a price of art. But now you've been and got your photos and had a look (as plenty of my mates did) are you gonna go back? That's the problem I think.

Hmm. Seems to be the way it's going, doesn't it? Maybe DJs are more cost effective (and evidently, the masses eat it up).

Well it made for an excellent meeting point, particularly for pyramid sets so in that sense I most likely will be going back. I do think a lot of glastonburys offerings are visited once on a initial stroll when theres no music on, and then don't get much repeat visitors (e.g. glastonbury on sea, permaculture, glastonbury sign, stone circle), but I still very much appreciate them

To be fair it is right next to the Official Meeting Point and the Tony Benn Tower, which have been there forever.

I liked WG for the late night Club de Fromage cheese fest after the main stages closed. Now that has gone, and they have also got rid of the Kasbah which also played cheesy tunes I will have to find somewhere else that isn't just EDM or similar. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but it's nice to have a choice.

Can't they open up another of the tented stages to compensate for the end of William's Green on the Thursday night?

Isn't that happening over at Woodsies area or have I just made that up?

Yes, the Tree Stage is running on the Wednesday & Thursday, but we don't yet know the scale of it, the stage last year was very small. It's obviously going to be an upgrade to some degree.
