Definitely felt fishy not having any lineup that late, but still shocking. Might be time to give up the expansion dreams and stay with good old BCN and Porto

katyaz
Here's the statement https://www.primaverasound.com/en/news/a-la-comunidad-primavera-sound-en-latinoamerica "external difficulties" Yeah I think they should really just stuck with Barcelona and Porto at this point
xxialac
No way they are satisfied with 2 festivals. Clear intentions to keep expanding and capitalise on brand and ability to batch buy bands. Pretty sure they will announce another one in Europe before long.

Yeah unfortunately this is just the Primavera mindset now. I expect Italy will be next, there was some rumours of that C2C Turin collaboration. And then maybe they'll look into that Primavera London one again, I know that this year they extended the Victoria Park licence.
scatteredscreens
Fontaines DC have announced some dates starting from 17th June in Italy. Reckon they're a lock for Primavera at this rate.

SweetJesus
I’m just guessing about Primavera because I think they were supposed to play in 2020, right? But NIN are coming back to Europe, that’s more important
ibo
NIN were never on the 2020 or 2021 line up…
joselito
On 8/30/2024 at 8:36 PM, FestivalJamie said: Wow. What is the reason ? They usually have incredibly strong line ups In my opinion, there are two main points. First, the Chile factor. We're not in Europe or the USA, so bands come here and only play 3 to 5 shows, so we need all countries to help with the costs. After problems in the first year with the local organization, Barcelona broke with Santiago and the festival did not take place there, and was not planned that year either. Second, I don't know how the negotiations were going so here is my guess. The producer moved here last year, and got a master sponsorship from Banco do Brasil, in addition to other beverage sponsorships. Perhaps this sponsorship would not be repeated this year, which would make the festival very unfeasible (here I'm not just talking about South America, but production costs are absurd all over the world, see the cancellation of Desert Daze and the tickets of mega artists like Taylor Swift or now Oasis costing 150 pounds on a stadium pitch). One last point, this being more romantic and thinking that nothing above happened: I believe that one of the headliners was QOTSA - they were at Corona Capital -, since, around here, it will always be necessary to have big headliners to attract a large audience. That‘s why I always assumed they‘ll definitely be playing once they come back to Europe. 2022 was an exclusive deal with Hellfest so doesn‘t count.

chilirocker
Looks like Olivia Rodrigo is doing festivals next year, uninspiring lineup but I’d take Tool, Charlotte de Witte, Fontaines, Girl in Red, JPEGmafia, Caribou and Michael Kiwanuka
ibo
Any chance we could get Justin? 🤪
