Primavera Sound 2025

Bob is the Cure manager... I think the only reason is if he wants or not play festivals. Since their last album, they always sell well arenas in any Europe City. But, playing Primavera as a headliner is a plus nowadays, like Depeche Mode did 2 years ago. With a new album, i think they are 90% in.

Given we've heard from someone with information that they're probably not doing Primavera Porto I can assume that they wont do Barcelona either. They feel like a band who could easily do both (like Pulp this year).

Would love them to be there but I can't see it currently.

I like your mock, but just one coment about the XX:

Jamie is releasing his new album after 9 years, selling a lot of tickets around the world about 40, 50euros (talnkig about Sao Paulo, 2000 tickets at this price, what is unreal)... So, i don´t think he will burn one year of promoting this album doing dj sets, while producing another XX album... So, i don´t expect a XX album until late 2026 or 2027...

Yes, you're right, but by the time I thought about the possible headliners I thought that Jamie would have a shorter impact and success. And after Oliver Sim album in 2022, Romy's in 2023 and Jamie in 2024 (and a hinted collaboration altogether in the album), I thought there would be a new XX album in maybe late 2025, but it could be anticipatedly presented in Primavera in a similar way to Charli's Brat. They also have a good relationship with the festival, and it was also rumoured the XX comeback to Glasto, so it could be one of the surprises in the line-up, but I reckon that this idea is losing strength with each passing day. We'll see what they have in store for us.

TV on the Radio are doing a concert in London in August, this reduces the odds a bit for Primavera...

Don't think it does. It's only a sub slot also.

Shows they're active next year, we don't know the rest of the tour routing.

From June to mid-August  would be a bit long as a tour, right? But that's okay, let's not lose hope🤞🏻

PJ Harvey did a August Gunnserbury show and also played Primavera.

I assume TVOTR are hitting up loads of festivals across the summer

I mean those dates make Mad Cool very likely so probably just playing that which hasn't been announced yet.

I don't think so. The person who hired her for Portugal was a promoter from Kalorama, which is also from Bilbao BBK ... I believe she will be due on July 12th.

Fair enough, Bilbao it is.

Either way I'm unsure why it was shared in the Primavera thread as she is seemingly ruled out, definitely ruled out if she's doing Bilbao.

I would keep an eye on the lineup for the Unsound festival located in Poland, which is currently taking place. There's always a handful of names that appear there and perform the following year at Primavera. It seems that part of the booking team of PS has a good relationship with the organizers of Unsound, or at least they seek inspiration there. This is understandable considering it’s one of the most important european festivals in the field of electronic avant-gard or at least non-commercial music.

just back from there from the 5th time...it was a blast!
I would expect yellow swans if they hadn't announced it as their only eu show in the near future.
DJ E, dj rupture and spikeheart must be nailed on

I wish that yellow swans would perform next year too since they confirmed on instagram that they would make a handful of more appearances during 2025, although I feel they might be too obscure for Primavera

On the contrary, it has become less and less relevant to be a headline act somewhere. There were times when you had to make it to the top of the fest machine before you were arena ready but thats long gone. Primavera does have a good reputation, but even they can't keep up with the pace of star-making nowadays. Acts like The Cure do not need to play anything, they don't care too much about money and they sure don't need exposure. They particularly dislike playing festivals if the audience will just be there for the hits. Negotiating these things isn't a walk in the park and more often negotiations fail than succeed.

I should really skip this thread until the actual line up releases the amount of certainty with which y'all predict things there is zero information available about ist just absurd. I'd love to have a reasonable discussion about the line up and that can of course include The Cure and any other act, but we are getting nowhere if everything here is based on gut feeling, dates some person on twitter made up and esoterical predictions about some act that has a new album out at some point in history

Agree with these points to be fair.

Also someone on the Sziget forum hasn't heard they're doing festivals. This could just be August ones but I think they're just going to do their own shows again.

I mean its a bit of an odd measure, because its been so long, but for their last album they played solo shows and then festivals on the tours second leg a years later. Might of course be completely different but still.

Another thing is: It used to be relatively common to do arena shows with strewn in fests. This is much less a thing now, bc you essentially need two lines of production (tightly scheduled arena tours used to do this as well) and since the costs of touring exploded, the second line of production is not worth it anymore in relation to the money acts  make on a handful of fests.

once again... The Cure are hinted only because last year they played PS in South America

Which is a moot point as the SA PS have 0 influence over the other Primaveras. They simply book who needs to satisfy a South American need, hence booking The Killers etc.

Yeah, it definitely seems to be one or the other with big bands with arena/festival shows.

There's also the chance that The Cure would prefer the control over their own shows, we saw the really good pricing in 2022 and 2023 and Robert's battles with TM to keep prices down. He might have just thought we can do our own tour and keep prices and costs down to fans as opposed to festivals where we don't have any control.

Which really has ero indication for PS BCN. Roisin Murphy was the only bigger act from SAs 2023 Primaveras that made it to PS BCN 2024. Simply no connection there. And booking just doesn't work like that

I saw this fake lineup on Twitter, and the name placement makes no sense (Childish Gambino or Olivia Rodrigo should be on the top lines). I'd be happy with most of the names though!

Only about 10 headliners there….

Yet The Cure did play some festivals in 2023 where they had no control over the prices. We also have to consider that the 2022/2023 arena tour was basically the tour for the forthcoming album since 5 new tracks were played regularly. So a festival tour seems more likely, as there's no guarantee they could sell out another arena tour again so soon.
