Gnomicide
Great game last night, Bradley's tackle on Mbappe cheered nearly as loudly as a goal. Very nervous for Sunday still, though obviously not as much as I would have been a few weeks ago.

The first half the ref kept getting conned by all the diving and play acting but fair play he must have watched the replays at half time and second half he wised up to all the play acting

Certainly sounded more entertaining than a genuinely poor Newcastle display at Crystal Palace where we had one shot in the whole game and conceded an injury time equaliser. After that is Liverpool on Wednesday and then a trip to Brentford, who somewhat curiously have the Premier League's best home record. Oh goodie. I support English football's great underachievers that last won a major trophy in 1969 and of late has had a lot of people reclassifying that honour as a minor one, stretching the dry streak back to 1955. Comes with the territory. I'd argue winning the Championship feels like a major honour now in a way it didn't really used to given how intense that division gets but apparently not.

As I write this, Everton are 4-0 down at Old Trafford. With this sequence round the corner - yikes. If they can't beat Wolves on Wednesday, that could be major trouble. Yeah I know, I know. I make the point given it feels intense to be involved in that division and the avalanche of games is quite something to wade through. Hell, Newcastle's two recent campaigns may have only been single season instant returns as league champions, but they were both so f**king stressful. Especially the last time given we lost 10 games and Brighton, Huddersfield and Reading really pushed us close. But I'm aware that by default, a second tier isn't the same lucre as winning the FA Cup. I'm not going to pretend it has the same prestige.

Same problem we had in the Champions League last season - squad just doesn't seem big enough. But I thought that might be possible this season with the CL being 8 games rather than 6. Less sure on what our excuse is with no European football this year given ourselves and Villa are in the bottom half and level on points. Not that either of us or indeed anyone really looks in the title chase. Liverpool now 9 points clear of Arsenal and 11 ahead of Man City. There's still 25 games to go, so there's still time for them to choke, but it doesn't exactly look like a gap that's about to be closed any time soon. Well unless Liverpool have an injury crisis, which tbf, they did last season.

You say that, Chelsea actually look like in a decent groove at the minute. 3rd in the league and just two defeats so far is much better than I expected given how bad the vibe was going into the season. Man City's sudden drop-off is going to be the centre of attention at present. At the very least, they seem to be in a position where they're going to be having a summer refresh given a lot of players seem to have reached the end of things there.
