Tent camping with campervan friends

Hey all.

This year our friends who are in a campervan (east) have suggested we pitch up our tent at the end of their spot. They arrive Tues, and we're on a coach arriving Thurs pm.

From a few searches it looks like campervans can have up to two tents on their lot. Is that right, and would people recommend it? Will our friends need to pitch up our tents for us on the Tuesday, or is it enough for them to pitch some tarp down to hold the spot?

Never been in the campervan fields so don't know what the atmosphere is like and what's ok or not - don't want to take the piss!

Depends on the size of the tents, but they give you space similar to something like 2x4 person tents or a 10 men tent at the side of your van. Hard to describe but that should give you an idea. I'd advise they pitch it for you ideally, just so you've definitely secured the space.

I loved the campervan area, it's noticeably quiet and relaxed of an evening though. If you want a late night and a party back at camp, I'd says its not really the vibe.

It is undeniably a long walk into the festival, and the hill on the way home isn't always super pleasant.

Depends what you are after. Defo not in the thick of it all and a long walk back, but you have all the facilities of the van depending what you benefit from there.

space should be fine but no reason they can’t pop your tent up and one less thing to carry if they have the space. If they can take as much of your stuff as possible you can have a much more relaxed journey!!

Are you spending some of the festival with these friends?

Will they be happy to pop some of your gear in their van?

Saving you the carry from the coach would be brilliant, as it's in through the gate across the site and then up the big hill.

If they let you use any of the van facilities that would be a huge bonus too - for example in exchange for one of you helping fill the water or whatever.  As said it's a different experience in the cv field - but great if it's what you want.

this was our set up last year…(4x4 vehicle, Caravan, full awning and a 4 man tent… and then a ton of open social space- sitting out for breakfast) Now, this is probably the most room we have had in 10 years in CV East and it was probably because we were next to the fence in E19

but we have always had enough space for the awning and a tent…

per @clarketei would suggest getting your friends to take in ALL of your stuff as the walk from the bus station is the best part of an hour. Perhaps take them some fresh food supplies breakfast, milk, fruit etc…

camping in the CV fields is not for everybody.. if you are full on and plan on being out till 6am every night you may prefer it on site..

we usually finish up about 2am and appreciate the quiet overnight and the social space in the morning for breakfast before heading back at lunchtime.. (as well as the ability to cook breakfast and shower of course..)

All so helpful - thanks everyone!

We're well up for a more relaxed vibe at night. Tend to hit the fest for the day and come back 1, 2am. And not too fazed by the big walk.

Campervan friends kindly up for taking most of our stuff in and pitching up (2x 4 man tents) on the Tues. Bringing some fresh food, milk etc is a great shout.

Think we'll give it a go.

They just need to tell the parking attendant “I have quite a big awning” and they’ll park the next vehicle slightly further away 👍 once that’s done there’s no need for the tent to be used to reserve space before you arrive.

Aren't all the campervan spaces a regulation 8m x 8m 🤔

8m x 7m

A VW camper is probably 5m x 2m.? / A decent motorhome 7m x 2.5m

If you have something over 8m in length you have to buy a Large (16m x 7m) pitch in B&W

In the larger fields where there are straight runs of vehicles, they are pretty much within than but it gets more haphazard around the edges (and hedges)..

E19 is the trickiest of spaces - long and thin with a track down the middle and a big fence next to the road (per pic)

even the caravan and full awning are only 5m wide (still 2m to play with)

I’m doing the same thing. Two quick questions. Are there toilets like in the main site? Secondly to ensure I park in east car parks what is the best route to follow? Coming from the North.

there are portaloos.

You just follow the blue route to be on the East side
