Long time no post. Had to come back for this. Need to put my thoughts down on this. Matt 42 style. This is a very strange one. Pre-festival, I would have been the first one to say someone like SZA is an out-and-out headliner. I’ve been aware of her for years, watched her rise, and closely follow the US music scene. I am also one of those who firmly believe Glasto can book acts “not quite big enough” and they will fill the field. I was utterly gobsmacked by how Sunday turned out. I got a sense it was going this way during the weekend, as a couple of my mates (mid-20s) were also saying to me, “Who is SZA?” and that they were only coming to see SZA because there wasn’t much else on. I thought it would be a similar turn-out to Kendrick, but one of my mates interestingly said to me “mate, everyone knows Kendrick. He’s been doing big shows in the UK for ages… SZA hasn’t”. Maybe this will look like a stronger booking in a few years, but right now isn’t the right time. I still think Glasto should still make these kinds of bookings. I’d really prefer this to an endless cycle of the Killers, Muse, Kings of Leon, Foo Fighters, and Coldplay, as new bookings keep me interested and coming back. I know some acts are easy crowd pleasers but I’d still like them to pull people in I’ve never seen or not had the chance to get. But yeah, something didn’t work with this. Maybe it’s because while she’s a great artist, she’s not really known for being a live performer either. It felt like a poor mix of chemistry and a bit of a reality check for people like me. I am very interested in hearing different views and honesty, because this is probably the most curious thing that’s happened at Glastonbury in all the years I’ve been going. I’ve been a bit humbled by it.

Really good couple of days - I only did the Sat/Sun but very well ran festival, felt like everything ran alot smoother compared to 2022 when navigating the site, Outdoor stage was a success minus the Manchester Weather also Shame about Balance and Composure going to the early sunday slot but everyone still went mental for it, highlight for me was Joyce Manor and Have Heart where i ate the concrete after a stage dive Hopefully get another couple big acts next year, hoping for Alexisonfire personally! (Also shout out to the security team, incredible as always such good people and aware like no other in such a hectic situation)

Yup. The three or four main small stage acts who would draw ginormo-crowds (Avril, Barry Can't Swim, Sugababes, Justice) could be seen coming a mile off. Anyone showing up 5 minutes beforehand and expecting to stroll stage-front was kidding themselves.
