Incidentally I was talking to Beans on Toast on Sunday evening and he said although he’ll obviously be playing somewhere it isn’t sorted yet, and normally isn’t until January (ish).

Other than James who was on late due to technical issues, Annie Mac was the worst choice I've seen them take and not one I'd expect similarly anytime soon. It was dead, the vibe wasn't great and it just didn't work.

Who at Glasto thought a DJ at that hour would have worked.

I thought it did ... that opening slot is weird , hard to get the energy right . certainly not dead in terms of crowd numbers

Pretenders were great in that slot 2017. James were late, as you say, due to trying to lay loads more wood chip. Remember crowds standing outside the metal barriers still wondering if they would open the main stages at all! Ground was splonging.

No idea at all. I was happy to see her but it just left me thinking I either wanted to see her again at night time or just not bothered with her. She was always one where I wouldn't see Iver something that was at least half important but it's a no from me.

I thought the crowd was dead, I was right opposite it and compared to previous opening other stage Friday slots it was poor.

Acts flop opening other on friday quite often - needs a few more tries before determining it a no go area I reckon.

 

Probably doesn't help she's not a huge draw and most people who like DJs likely went to bed at 3am i guess

 

edit; saying that, I don't think many from the E&D thread would even bother going to Annie Mac unless mates wanted to. Hard to get a DJ that would actually be much pull for that slot so early in the day

Didn't the whole 'Opening the Other' thing start when only the Other stage started at 11am and the others at noon?

 

Now they all pretty much start at 11am so is the Other Opener really anything different now?

 

We were at WH for Sofia Kortesis this year and it was quite busy.

edit; saying that, I don't think many from the E&D thread would even bother going to Annie Mac unless mates wanted to. Hard to get a DJ that would actually be much pull for that slot so early in the day

To be honest I think it would be hard getting a decent option for a dj to want to play that early and waste their time slot then. At least say if it was a random crossiant nerf tent opening gig it would be inside a tent and a bit more intimate but not other opener.

Just give them another slot as well - a huge amount of the DJs that play do a few sets, not sure how you have missed this?!

 

As for the latter - that's just four tet morning side really

 

A lot of DJs will never have played such a big field, don't think it would be very hard to sign someone up to it

Annie Mac played a different set on Stonebridge but it was a different kind of back to back thing. Also, I'm sure I've said anything that points to me having missed that? There is no point in giving a DJ two slots with one being absolutely pointless. I've been to Creamfields, I enjoyed it, years ago but djs playing the main stage at midday/1pm in pure daylight, boring and pointless.

 

As for your last point, Creamfields have open main stages as mentioned above with djs playing from very early afternoon on so plenty of DJs will have had that opportunity. Why would they choose to play a slot to a crowd less interested for less money?

There is no way they can't sign someone up to doing it. There are literally 50+ suitable DJs on the farm.

You are correct, yet Annie Mac was the one finally chosen and currently looks like it's back to bands the very next year. Sounds like a big thing they are open to not doing again. It flopped bad.

It could 100% come back how are you basing it never coming back on one year that hasn't even been confirmed yet!

Surely Annie was only signed up off the success of her Before Midnight events. I don’t think they’d normally go for a DJ to open Other/Pyramid unless it was someone that does live electronic music shows, Bonobo for example. 
 

I’ve always been an Annie fan, her set on Pangaea in 2019 was amazing. But won’t think opening Other was a right spot for her

I am just saying that if they want a DJ they would easily be able to convince someone to do it.

Glasto have great relations with tons of DJs

Surely Shed Seven are better live, Hard Fi are an absolutely woeful live act. Sounds nothing like the record, madness.
