Royel Otis are playing Park, which I'm very happy about.

On Kneecap - swear I heard Other Stage bandied about. I may have imagined that, but I'll predict it regardless of info.

I wouldn't dream of going anywhere near Kneecap. They've crossed the line that separates pro-Palestine activism from, well, something completely unhinged and dangerous, and not by a short distance. In a rational world they would be pariahs.

What have they been doing out of interest?

I don't want this to be political or personal. I'm no supporter of Israel's government or their conduct in the war. I don't want to silence protest. But this really is a thoughtless response, and given that I provoked it I should explain my thinking. I note that my comment has so far received four downvotes and no upvotes (and @Colorblindjames has got an upvote for his), which suggests that members of this forum tend to disagree with me. I invite anyone who does to get in touch - I have my own biases and am always learning. But I think there is something about Kneecap's social media output that is profoundly illiberal. It is possible to be pro-Palestinian and also wrong.

Here are a few tweets from the last 10 days that I think present an issue:

I've got a few issues with this image, but let's just take the main one. This picture features the six-pointed star that is widely seen as a symbol of the Jews, blended with a Nazi swastika. I think it would be completely wrong to distort the Israeli flag in this way, but this is not the Israeli flag. This would be a powerful political image without the star, but with it a line has obviously been crossed. Really this couldn't be much clearer. Google Holocaust inversion.

Firstly, these signs do or did exist and they're really grim. From what I can see they were created by an Israeli campaigning organisation - so by Israelis - and obviously not by the state of Israel, and the image is of people walking (fleeing is probably the more accurate word). I don't think it's weird to consider accuracy important, but my main issue isn't with that.

On successive days Kneecap described Israel as "the most depraved regime on earth" and "the most evil force on earth". They may consider Israel's government to be reprehensible, repulsive. I wouldn't have an issue with them saying so. But literally as I type mass graves are being excavated in Syria, Iran is ruled by  Islamist extremists who murder women for showing their hair and pour billions into genocidal militias, a Saudi regime that led a war in Yemen that killed (estimates vary) around 400,000 people has used the death penalty to execute more than 300 this year. Sadly I could go on. So what is it about the world's only Jewish state, I wonder, that makes them "the most evil" or "the most depraved" on earth?

I'm sure I could find much more and worse if I did a deeper trawl. Like I say, I think they regularly cross the line and that their social media activity (I've no idea what they say at their concerts) should set off alarm bells among all people who consider themselves liberal/considerate/anti-racist, which I hope includes most of us on this forum.

I'm sorry to have derailed this thread. Now I'm off to see Paul McCartney.

Hmm interesting Why is that -  I would say given there current stock it makes them more likely to open the other than a normal slot?    First successful albums in lets be honest (a long time).  Paralells with James when they were selected to do it in 2016!  If anything the early slot had been designed to highlight an act as oposed to just putting them on first -  Hard Fi in a regular line up on the Other stage would be pretty close to the bottom of it - you would think anyway,

Sheds have been fully engaged by Radio 2 tits last year. Live Piano Room, live in the park, all singles playlisted. They haven't just had a couple of albums done well. And they've just sold out a 22-date tour. They fell significantly more successful right now than Other opener.

When James did it in 2016, their album only came out in March of that year.

My one-eyed drunkeness read that as "Otis Redding". I thought bugger me, that's a stretch!

Feels like a description of an act that's exactly the right size to be the other stage opener.

There not a bigger act than Ben Howard who did that slot in 2023 if it's not to small for him it's not to small for them

I still find it interesting that Kneecap didn’t pull out of TGE last year over their Barclays sponsorship.
It was the largest UK festival boycott I’ve seen and over 120 artists pulled out. Many set up impromptu events raising money for MAP and other charities.

Kneecap stayed played and tried to justify it by arguing that they shouldn’t ’de-platform’ themselves
