But then I feel like the tabloid Glastonbury rumour mill is just "whomever might sort of get clicks, they're totally gonna do it" There was of course a report saying that Girls Aloud were going to play the Legends Slot at Glastonbury 2024. Despite that never looking likely for multiple reasons (tour dates, INABS, nowhere near enough tenure, and generally not being suitable). I'd treat any reports of them playing in 2025 to be equally valid. Trigger warning: The link goes to The Sun. Because of course it does.

No matter how many random pop groups you advocate for the slot, there's still no indication whatsoever that the festival have any intention of heading in that direction. Nor should they. They've got a slot that has a pretty strong identity, Girls Aloud would be a massive detriment to that.
SticklinchJoe Posted yesterday at 09:55 PM Report Share Posted yesterday at 09:55 PM I'd understand it, but I wouldn't go to see them. Not my era.

I don't think there are many bands that fit the criteria, and even then only Girls Aloud from the last 20 years. Spice Girls and Duran Duran are the others They should absolutely be going after older acts whilst they're still here. To my mind a list of folk they should be targeting goes something like: Cher Manilow Carole King Stevie (N and / or W) Babs Mariah Robbie Williams Celine Dion Britney Then below that the bands. But I do think the bands are a better call than - to choose an example at random - Joe Bonamassa playing the songs of Gary Moore. Also, INABS isn't a thing that comes from the festival and is the worst acronym of all time.

CaledonianGonzo
Well in that case... Actually I always forget that Smokey is still hanging on in there, but Lord knows what sort of fettle his live act is in given his vintage.

Kind of mad that he is to me. I just assumed he was older than he already was, if that makes sense.

The Miracles were a 50s act and his relationship with Berry Gordy predates Morown by a decent chunk I think.

There were certainly comments that made me think they were up for Glastonbury, but they booked Liverpool the same weekend because vibes, I guess? I thought Girls Aloud were going to go back on hiatus after the tour tbf, but maybe there were comments that they were going to have more shows that I missed. Surely Liverpool on G weekend is a ghost town?

Seems like there is demand for Glasto alternatives, mind. Green Day sold out Wembley on Glastonbury weekend this year.
A Particular Grey Chihuahu
Could The Corrs be legends? Maybe on a slow year?

Pyramid slot with a big crowd, a la Texas is a distinct possibility but certainly not the Legend Slot.
NorthernSoul52
There are definitely shows that will sell well to a crowd on Glastonbury weekend. I know quite a few people who opted to skip out on the G, on the basis of rumours, when Iron Maiden's London Stadium show was announced for the Saturday of. (A show that I remain surprised to discover has seemingly sold out.)

Nah, I think they could be booked 3rd download Pyramid, I think they are too popular for 4th down. They'd be a bigger pull than Texas for me. Legends has to be Robbie Williams or Cher I think. IIRC they were on before the Legend (Al Green) on the Sunday. Can't imagine they're any bigger than that now. Imagine a top line on the poster of O-Rod, Fred, Fender, The Corrs (legend). Sheesh!
