Nothing “problematic” about Roger

Some may disagree!

“Sadly @rogerwaters you are antisemitic to your rotten core,” Samson tweeted. “Also a Putin apologist and a lying, thieving, hypocritical, tax-avoiding, lip-synching, misogynistic, sick-with-envy, megalomaniac. Enough of your nonsense.”

Also David Byrne, potentially? He'd be a dream booking for me...

That's an interesting name.

I think if he knew what the slot was, "got it", and went in all guns blazing with faithful versions of the songs everyone knows then it could be an all-timer.

But unfortunately I think it's more likely that we didn't get that, and that he'd probably alienate half the crowd by about 20 minutes in.

I dunno, those utopia setlists and the accompanying film were fantastic.  Think I vaguely recall someone here saying they went/were going to it.

The film was awesome but I was less sure about how that would translate to a festival surrounding. Although tbf I think he did it at Coachella.

There any talk he's planning to go back on tour soon?

I'd be flabbergasted if he did, but then he's certainly done some US ones as you say.  Think at different times @Neil has met some or all of talking heads?

Smokey, Ozzy and Phil Collins are all retired on health grounds.

Hasn't Patti Smith played twice in recent years in an early-ish Pyramid slot?  If they've booked her twice as non-legend, why would they bump her up now?  Not big enough or enough tunes - that's why.

Celine Dion hasn't played outside of Vegas for years and has serious health problems so very, very unlikely.

Belinda Carlisle is a great shout.  Missed out on her last UK tour but a pal went and said it was a cracking gig and her voice is still 10/10.  I'd be there for that.

So..

I've been trying to compile a pseudo definitive list of Legends Slot contenders and I've reached a point where I'm prepared to share it.

This list contains everyone I've seen seriously suggested on this and several other previous threads, or in the wider world, that meet the following criteria:

- Aged 50+ (record lowest to date is Kylie at 51)
- Minimum 30 year career (record lowest to date is Al Green, at 33)
- Solo, or solo-led acts only (as per precedent)
- Hasn't done The Legends Slot before
- If they have previously played the festival, it was a while ago (only exception to date being Ray Davies in 2010)

So my questions - from this list, what names have I missed? Are there any retirements or deaths I've missed? Or any other notes that should be added as to why someone is more or less likely than others?

I shouldn't need to clarify this, but obviously inclusion here is in no way an endorsement on my part, so I'm not interested in arguing the case over acts being too small or not suitable.

Also played in less high profile slot (the PlayStation 3 SingStar karaoke stage)

whataboutery. We're talking about Clapton. and not only is he a colossal and unrepentant racist, he's also a maker of dreadfully boring music, and a stealer of Beatle wives.

0.5/10, and that's just for the bit at the end of Layla, which he's probably nothing to do with.

Plus it’s fairly hard to think of a duller artist
