Legends Slot 2025

Justin Timberlake keeps circling around my head, but it's not the one.

Maybe we go back to somebody down the line of Cat Stevens and get somebody with a slightly lower star wattage in.

Maybe Joe Bonamassa comes and does his Rory Gallagher tribute - though that definitely wouldn't be big enough. Far more early Pyramid, that.

There's a tabloid article saying that's who they want - but nothing to indicate it's actually in motion.

An article handily published while she was trying to publicise her autobiography (out next month, probably quite good tbf). I think we can feel free to disregard the rumour until some more reliable evidence emerges.

Lots of big Pink Floyd hits in the setlist

I think David Gilmour's showed interest in playing Glastonbury in the past. Could he do it next year?

I think he falls into no-man’s land at Glasto now; one of many acts of his era that could easily have headlined 15-20 years ago but may now be seen as underwhelming by the younger festival goers, especially given that the majority of the set is his solo stuff and from the Roger-less version of the Floyd

Luck and Strange keeps growing on me, I think it's better than Momentary Lapse (But obviously comes nowhere near the best of Floyd). Romany Gilmour does a great cameo. Most amusing sections when he bursts into a floyd-esque guitar solo. I wish I could have seen him at the Albert Hall. Still reckon he's a very long shot for Glastonbury.

Does it matter if the younger festival goer sees it as underwhelming? Surely there will be more than enough to please them.

I honestly think Gilmour would be the best possible Legends slot.

The catalogue alone is virtually unbeatable for any other living artist that isn't called Ringo or Paul, nevermind the fact that he's still flowing well with the guitar and looks incredible live.

Scenarios like this can actually physically hurt with how much I want it to happen, whilst knowing that it ain't gonna*.

*See also - Stevie Nicks or Kate Bush for this slot.

Whilst there is much opinion on the Headliners thread that Stevie W is headline or nothing, I can see a scenario where this happens.  Whilst he is still knocking out 2.5 hours shows in the US, from what I read he had to take some breaks, had other vocalists filling in slightly at times and it didn't sound to me like the Master Blaster show we had in 2010.  I think a shift to a shorter daytime slot would help avoid comparisons.  For me, the only issues would be (a) getting in the field as it would be rammo and (b) how the hell do you condense his back catalogue into a 1:15 - 1:30 show?  What do you leave out?  Impossible task right there.

Gilmour is a bit strange, because the Legends Slot - while not exclusively for that - is generally associated these days with big singalong parties. Gilmour's sets are... not that. They're far more revered, if anything.

Take his current tour, slip away the solo material, and you've got:

1 Speak to Me
2 Breathe (In the Air)
3 Time
4 Breathe (Reprise)
5 Fat Old Sun
6 Marooned
7 Wish You Were Here
8 High Hopes
9 Sorrow
10 A Great Day for Freedom
11 The Great Gig in the Sky
12 Coming Back to Life
13 Comfortably Numb

Even if he accepted the gig on the proviso he just played Pink Floyd, would he actually change it from that? I have my doubts.

And even at that, a few stinkers in there.

Now, a Glastonbury singalong to The Great Gig in the Sky would be 'interesting'
